Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) celebrated Fox News’ firing of former host Tucker Carlson on Monday, saying that “de-platforming works” and that “good things can happen.”

Ocasio-Cortez’s remarks come after she claimed over the weekend that Carlson was responsible for “incitement of violence” and that lawmakers needed to be open to “explore through law” ways to regulate news content on networks like Fox News.

“Tucker Carlson is out at Fox News — couldn’t have happened to a better guy,” AOC sarcastically said. “What I will say though, is while I’m very glad that the person who is arguably responsible for the, some of the, largest driving some of the most amounts of death threats and violent threats not just to my office, but to plenty of people across the country.”

“I also kind of feel like I’m like waiting for the cutscene at the end of a Marvel movie after all the credits have rolled, and then you see like the villain’s like hand, re-emerge out to grip over like the end of a building or something,” she added. “But de-platforming works, and it is important and there you go. Good things can happen.”

The lawmaker’s remarks come after Fox News made the announcement that Carlson would be leaving the network, sending shockwaves through the media after Carlson dominated cable news ratings in recent years.

“FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways,” Fox News said in a statement. “We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor.”

“Mr. Carlson’s last program was Friday April 21st” the statement continued. “Fox News Tonight will air live at 8 PM/ET starting this evening as an interim show helmed by rotating FOX News personalities until a new host is named.”
