A man was shot and killed after an argument with another college football fan over which team is better during Saturday's Alabama vs Texas A&M game.

Police said that the game was into its final minutes when the dispute between the two men at a gathering in the Birmingham suburb of Bessemer took a deadly turn.

Lt. Christian Clemons said the argument, centered around which of the two college football teams playing at the time was superior, led to the homeowner to ask the two men to leave.

But after the two men had gone outside, shots were fired and one of them men – 27-year-old Kealend Amad Pickens – was hit multiple times in the torso.

The shooting occurred before the game had finished.

Pickens - reportedly a Auburn Tigers fan - was taken to University of Alabama Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:23 a.m. on Sunday.

The as yet unnamed shooter fled the scene before officers arrived. Clemons said the police are aware of the person's identity, and that the suspect is still at large.

In a shock to college football fans, unranked Texas A&M stunned top-ranked Alabama 41-38 on a last-play field goal, ending the Crimson Tide's winning streak at 19 games.

'It's just another case of resorting to violence to handle differences,' Clemons said.
