Proud Boys-Linked 'Afghan Refugee Hunting Permit' Found at Michigan Campus (Picture)

A number of far-right stickers, including a mock "Afghan refugee hunting permit" attributed to the Proud Boys, have been distributed across the University of Michigan campus.

Alex Williams, a transfer student who has only just recently moved to the university, said she found around a dozen extremist stickers on campus on September 12, which she removed herself.

The "Afghan refugee hunting permit" which Williams found on a street light was attributed to the Proud Boys and used the same black and yellow color scheme and imagery associated with the far-right group.

The sticker lists the permit number as 09/11/01, an apparent reference to the September 11 terror attacks, along with the words "no bag limit—Tagging Taliban not required. May hunt day or night with or without dogs."

The stickers were apparently advocating for the murder of Afghans as tens of thousands of refugees are to set to be housed in the U.S. after they were evacuated from Kabul in August, prior to the Taliban retaking the country.

The Biden administration said it hopes to resettle 95,000 Afghans in the U.S. following the evacuation operation.

Williams told Newsweek: "I was very upset when I found this sticker because it is advocating for the lynching of people of a particular nationality. I then checked the other light posts nearby to see if there were more stickers and I found 10-14 more and took them all down. I called security and they sent someone and I gave him all the ones I had on me at the time, but I had found a few more after he left on my way back to my room."

Other stickers which were found on the campus, seen by Newsweek, include one which read "support your local Proud Boy" and others which called for people to "reclaim America."

Another sticker contained the letter RWDS, a common extremist acronym which stands for Right Wing Death Squad.

Williams said she was disappointed by the racist messages which were distributed on the campus.

"We need to stand up for our neighbors regardless of their country of origin and not allow hate groups to intimidate community members," Williams said.

Deputy Chief Melissa Overton, of the University of Michigan's Division of Public Safety and Security, confirmed that a number of stickers were found around West Hall on campus on September 12, which were removed by the complainant.

Overton said any student who finds similar material on campus should contact the DPSS Dispatch at (734) 763-1131.
