NYU students who are quarantining ahead of classes blast the meager 'Fyre Fest-style' food supplied by college - with some vegans and Muslims given pork and one meal consisting only of a granola bar, a cookie and a lemon

Irate students stuck quantaining on New York University's campus ahead of classes have taken to social media to blast the Fyre-Fest quality meals they have been given by the college - with tiny portions, dietary requirements ignored and some left with no food at all.
Videos and pictures have circulated heavily across popular platforms like TikTok and Twitter as angry students demand answers for why the meals are so subpar.
The school started letting international students and those from 'restricted' states to return to residence halls on campus on August 18 and 19 so that they could quarantine for two weeks ahead of classes.
According to their website, NYU promised students that they would provide 'three meals a day at no cost, including for those with a range of dietary needs.'
'You will also be able to avail yourself of meal delivery services (at your expense), within certain times during the day, should that be of interest' the school added, also sharing that some residential units also had microwaves and fridge units.
Some students haven't even been given the three meals they are supposed to receive from the university, with several claiming on social media they received meager portions late in the day.
One woman claimed she was going to be 'S K I N N Y' because of the lack of food she was getting
Another gave her meal a 7/10 when she received another salad
Several students have taken to Twitter and TikTok to sound off on the horrible food - or lack thereof - that they have received from NYU

'I'm gonna be S K I N N Y,' one student shared on TikTok, showing that she hadn't received her first three meals and only received all three at 6pm that day.
The meals consisted of cereal with no milk and two watermelon salads, one that contained chicken.

Another student, who was not a vegan but received a vegan breakfast, was shocked when its contents revealed one lemon, a granola bar and a cookie.
Another student, a vegetarian who received her meals all at one time, shared that the school was continuing to send her meat even after she told them of her dietary restrictions.
While she emailed dining services and was told that they had her marked down as a vegetarian, the student was left horrified when her next meal still contained chicken and came with just a loaf of bread and an assortment of condiments. It did also contain an orange, an apple and a cheese stick.

'Lunch and dinner all served at 4:30,' the student shared #nyuquarantine,' the student said in her video caption. 'After the watermelon chicken salad this is great #nyu woop woop.'
Several students shared photos of their uninspiring meals. Salads consisted of piles of cheese, steak, a few leafy greens and endless olives.
Other meals included dry slabs of chicken or in once case, two baked items with two bottles of water.
'The way this school only brought me ONE (1) meal today ahahahah I'm so fucking hungry and angry rn I want to fight,' another student shared on Twitter, later adding that she had friends chip in so that she could get something to eat.
Another student, who identified herself as a Muslim, shared that she had taken a bite out of her sandwich only for her roommate to quickly notify her that it contained pork. She sent a email demanding clarity to school personnel.

'There's no labels on this or anything and I have no way of knowing what I just consumed,' the concerned woman said. 'I am Muslim and if this is pork, this is completely unacceptable. I need to know what this is, and if it is pork it needs to be replaced.
The inadequate meals conjure memories of that provided at the failed Fyre Festival in 2017. But festival attendees, who paid up to $10,000 for tickets, ended up receiving sad-looking cheese sandwiches rather than the luxury food that had been advertised.
John Beckman, Senior Vice President for Public Affairs and Strategic Communications at NYU, released a statement saying that the university was aware of the series of complaints regarding the student meals.
'This is a never-before-tried operation for us and our food vendor, Chartwells (ie, large-scale delivery of meals to student rooms. There are over 2,600 students quarantining in our residence halls, and every day they are supposed to get three decent meals. Nearly 20% of the meals are specialized–kosher, vegan, halal, etc.).

'But it is vital to get it right, and we are disappointed in Chartwells's management of the quarantine meals process. We and Chartwells are correcting the situation promptly.'
Beckman shared that the university planned on adding a shift to get an earlier roll out on making deliveries. NYU will also hire more staff to address the complaints, along with more staff to handle specialty meals and personnel in residential halls to help get the food to students quicker.
The university has also authorized staff to supply students with funds to purchase food if they feel the meal they receive is subpar.
'We recognize that when people are required to quarantine in their rooms by themselves, few things in the day are more important than looking forward to something nice to eat, so this is a particularly regrettable error, and a let-down for our students. We are dismayed that this didn't go off as planned, we and Chartwells apologize to the students, and we are committed to correcting this promptly,' the statement from Beckman read.
NYU's cost of attendance is $78,742 for the 2020-2021 school year, according to their website, with room and board totaling approximately $19,244.
New York University is not the only school getting knocked for its abysmal meals, with students from the University of Georgia slamming the food they were receiving for their $2000 meal plan.
