The acting director of the department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement issued a scathing rebuke of controversial comments from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) criticizing migrant camps.

"Its completely inappropriate, it's reckless, it's irresponsible, it's misinformed, and it's flat out wrong," Director Mark Morgan said to The Hill about the remarks from Ocasio-Cortez.

He explained that "there is so much oversight in these facilities," referring to the migrant detention camps.

"I encourage the check and balance, I encourage inspections," he continued. "I feel very satisfied that if you go to these facilities, whether its a border patrol facility or an HHS [Department of Health and Human Services] facility or an ICE facility that there will be safe and adequate conditions to detain individuals."

Ocasio-Cortez began a firestorm of blowback after she accused the Trump administration of running "concentration camps" on the border.

"The U.S. is running concentration camps on our southern border, and that is exactly what they are," she said during an Instagram live session on Monday evening.
"If that doesn't bother you," she continued, "I want to talk to the people that are concerned enough with humanity to say that 'never again' means something."

The socialist Democrat was met with intense blowback on social media over the comparison to Nazi death camps, which lead to a bizarre debate about whether the term referred to all death camps or also some work camps.

She later attempted to justify and clarify her comments through a tweet.

"And for the shrieking Republicans who don't know the difference," Ocasio-Cortez said, "concentration camps are not the same as death camps. Concentration camps are considered by experts as 'the mass detention of civilians without trial.'"

"And that's exactly what this administration is doing," she claimed.

Here's a news video about the controversy:
