Saturday Night Live mocked the Republican Party and its leaders for going along with whatever President Trump wants.
The show’s cold open was a spoof of an episode of NBC’s Meet the Press.
The moderator, Chuck Todd, interviews three Republican senators who try to explain their support for Trump even if some of his policies and behavior are at odds with their past stated positions.
The cold open features Kyle Mooney as Todd, Kate McKinnon as Senator Lindsey Graham, Cecily Strong as Senator Susan Collins and Beck Bennett as Senator Mitch McConnell.
‘I hope you like my bangs,’ Todd begins the segment by saying.

‘It’s something new I’m trying for the summer.’
When Todd introduced Graham, the senator from South Carolina said: ‘I'm sorry, kids out there, but it is an f-ing honor, Chuck.’

In real life, Graham used the f-word during the televised hearings of the Senate Judiciary Committee, where Attorney General William Barr gave testimony earlier this month.
Graham was quoting FBI agent Peter Strzok, who in private communications used the word to describe President Trump as a ‘f*****g idiot.’
The SNL cold open was meant to satirize the Republican senators who support Trump even though they’ve disagreed in the past with his policy positions.
‘Senator Collins, how does it make you feel to see the president just unilaterally doing what he wants?’ Todd asks Collins, who in real life is a senator from Maine.
‘Chuck, I'll be the first to admit that some of the things this administration is doing makes we want to shake my head vigorously and wag my finger once. Perhaps twice,’ Collins says.
Todd then quizzes the senators about what, if anything, Trump could do to make them drop their support.
‘What if the president admits that he’s not as religious as he claims?’ Todd asked.
‘Well, if you don’t already know that, that’s kind of on you Chuck,’ said Bennett’s McConnell.
‘Or if he’s not even Christian? He’s Jewish?’ Todd asked.
‘Even better. That’s great for Israel,’ responded Collins.
‘Let’s say Trump open hand slaps you in the face. What would you say then?’ Todd asked.
‘Harder daddy,’ Graham said.
Todd asked Collins what she would do if Robert Mueller found that ‘Trump colluded with the Russians.’
‘I’d have to write a strongly worded email and send it straight to my draft folder,’ she said.
When Todd asks the senators about Trump’s possible obstruction of justice, Graham then says: ‘That's absolutely right. See, the best way to uphold the law is to be above it, Chuck.’
