Democrats in Washington are reportedly panicking because of fears that the pro-Hamas protests raging on college campuses across the country will galvanize the American public to vote for Republicans.

One House Democrat told Axios, “The longer they continue, and the worse that they get, the worse it’s going to be for the election overall,” adding that the protests are “Bringing out [the public’s] most conservative side.” Prior to a closed-door caucus meeting of House Democrats on Tuesday, “many people were talking about” the chaos at campuses, the Democrat admitted. “Many people are super frustrated and concerned.”

One unnamed Democrat expressed their concern that the protests would help Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying, “We need to remember that a vote for Trump or sitting out this election or voting third party is a vote for Netanyahu.”

Rep. Annie Kuster (D-NH) defended Democrats’ refusal to condemn the protests, saying, “It’s complicated enough for us with the range of opinions and height of emotions we have, without weighing in on what [colleges] should be doing.”

Meanwhile, President Biden has remained silent over the last week regarding the violence and protests plaguing college campuses. “We need the president of the United States to speak to the issue and say this is wrong,” House Speaker Mike Johnson said on Tuesday. “What’s happening on college campuses right now is wrong. It is un-American. It is not who we are. The president seems unable or unwilling to do this.”

The last public comment from Biden about the situation came on April 22, when he both-sided the issue, saying, “I condemn the anti-Semitic protests. I also condemn those who don’t understand what’s going on with the Palestinians.”

Conversely, former President Donald Trump has been outspoken in his denunciation of the protests. He said Wednesday, “I say remove the encampments immediately, vanquish the radicals and take back our campuses for all of the normal students who want a safe place from which to learn.”

Speaking in Wisconsin, Trump praised the NYPD for taking control at Columbia University, calling it a “beautiful thing to watch.” “New York was under siege last night,” he declared, calling the demonstrators at Columbia and City College of New York “raging lunatics and Hamas sympathizers.”

Trump also lacerated the rumored proposal from the Biden administration to relocate Palestinians to the United States, saying, “Your towns and villages will now be accepting people from Gaza and various other places. Under no circumstances shall we bring thousands of refugees.”
