In a sign of life for the corruption-focused impeachment inquiry, a top House Republican investigator said on Thursday that he issued a new subpoena that seeks bank records tied to members of President Joe Biden‘s family.

House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY), who is leading the probe, announced the development in an interview on Fox Business but declined to share the target of the subpoena.

“This morning, I issued a subpoena, for targeted financial information from a certain financial institution related to Jim Biden, Sarah Biden and Hunter Biden,” Comer said.

“This is a result of, many of the documents that Devin Archer turned over,” Comer continued, referring to a Biden family business partner who told congressional investigators how the Biden “brand” helped the president’s family do business abroad.

Jim Biden, who also goes by James Biden, is the younger brother of the president. He recently came up in a POLITICO report that alleged he was doing business with Qatari officials.

Sarah Biden is the wife of Jim Biden, and Hunter Biden is the adult son of President Biden. He is facing two criminal trials over gun and tax charges and is also receiving congressional scrutiny over his foreign business dealings.

In a posts to X sharing a clip of the interview, Comer added, “We know the Biden family set up over 20 shell companies & raked in over $24 million from China, Russia, and other foreign adversaries.”

He also said, “Today’s subpoena will help further expose the Biden family’s influence peddling schemes, the intentionally complicated web of LLCs formed by the Bidens to enrich themselves, & the central role Joe Biden played in the business dealings.”

Concluding his comments, published in bold font, Comer said: “Bank records don’t lie.”

President Biden turned down an invitation from Comer in April to give testimony for the impeachment inquiry. His special counsel, Richard Sauber, claimed the probe was “over” and insisted the oversight panel turned up evidence showing that Biden “has done nothing wrong.”

Comer told anchor Maria Bartiromo on Thursday that “hopefully we can prepare to close this investigation and present our findings to the American people,” adding that the impeachment inquiry is in its “final stages.”
