Portland State University took the weird step of “using what its architecture firm calls a ‘Critical Race spatial lens,’ incorporating a ‘decolonized library’ and other spaces intended to expand how students engage with science, according to a Campus Reform report.
“BORA Architecture, the firm behind the project, describes the design as an effort to address “historical inequalities” in science education.”
In case there was any ambiguity as to what this was referring to, “BORA says it engaged black, indigenous, and other students of color in discussions that influenced its design decisions.”
“Our design process leveraged a Critical Race spatial lens to address historic inequalities in science education,” the firm states.
Apparently Portland State never got the message that “we don’t need to do this anymore.”
The era of Wokeness and CRT may be over in much of the country, but clearly that has not reached the so-called institutes of “higher learning”.
“BORA also describes a community gathering room, a food and plant teaching kitchen, and a “decolonized library” as spaces that “push beyond typical Westernized lab offerings.”
As usual, Western culture is being demeaned in academia; sadly, this has become par for the course.
“Political scientist and professor Bruce Gilley criticized the terminology in a post on X, writing, “My university’s new science building features a ‘decolonized library’ and alternatives to ‘Westernized lab offerings.’”
“In a follow-up comment, Gilley wrote, “And remember, only conservatives ‘ban’ books. Leftists merely ‘decolonize’ them.”
This was a courageous comment for a professor to make in today’s schools groupthink.
“The firm’s project description does not specify which traditional laboratory offerings it considers “Westernized” or explain precisely how the Critical Race framework altered the building’s scientific facilities.”
CRT, like DEI, is not educational but rather undermines education and instead promotes an agenda based on race and ethnicity.
As has been established, the American public, by electing President Trump, has rejected wokeness, yet many colleges continue to impose the woke agenda on the student body.
