Óscar Pérez-Oliva Fraga, Great-Nephew of Fidel and Raúl Castro, Appointed as Deputy in the Cuban Parliament and Positions Himself as Potential Presidential Successor in 2028

Óscar Pérez-Oliva Fraga, great-nephew of the dictators Fidel and Raúl Castro, has been appointed deputy to the National Assembly of People’s Power in a session marked by inexplicable resignations of several parliamentarians.

This appointment, which took place on December 17, 2025, is not a mere bureaucratic procedure, but a strategic step that legally enables him to run for the presidency of the Republic in the upcoming sham elections of 2028, perpetuating the legacy of communist oppression on the island.

Pérez-Oliva Fraga, aged 54, is the son of Mirsa Fraga Castro, who in turn is the granddaughter of Ángela Castro Ruz, sister of Fidel and Raúl, making him the great-nephew of the founders of the Castro regime.

His rise has been meteoric and suspicious, driven by blood ties rather than democratic merits. He began his career in business positions in the Mariel Special Development Zone, a key enclave for foreign investment controlled by the State, where he held responsibilities in foreign trade.

Subsequently, he climbed to high-level positions in the government, culminating in October 2025 with his appointment as vice prime minister and minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, roles that allow him to directly influence the economy suffocated by socialism

The appointment as deputy took place in a session chaired by Esteban Lazo, president of the National Assembly, where the «resignations» of several deputies were announced, a common euphemism in totalitarian regimes for internal purges or manipulations.

Raúl Castro, the nonagenarian former dictator, observed the session via videoconference, possibly due to his deteriorated health condition, but his symbolic presence underscores the family continuity in a system where the Communist Party of Cuba is the only permitted political entity, and elections are a farce orchestrated by candidacy commissions controlled by the State.

In Cuba, citizens do not freely choose their representatives; candidates are selected by official organizations such as unions linked to the regime, guaranteeing absolute loyalty to communism and excluding any real opposition.

This rise of Pérez-Oliva Fraga exposes the dynastic nature of Castroism, an anti-Western regime that has plunged the island into chronic poverty, repression, and mass emigration while the family elite enriches itself.

Independent analysts see him as a possible replacement for Miguel Díaz-Canel, the current puppet president appointed by Raúl in 2018, ensuring that power does not escape the Castro lineage.

While the Cuban people suffer blackouts, shortages, and human rights violations, the regime prioritizes the perpetuation of its absolutist control, rejecting any opening toward democracy and freedom.
