President Joe Biden joked with cohost Whoopi Goldberg about squashing former President Donald Trump “like a bug” during Wednesday’s broadcast of “The View” on ABC.
Goldberg was complaining, as she often does while hosting the midday talk show, about Trump – and she compared him to an annoying insect that no one had been able to successfully shoo away.

“Then he just wouldn’t go — he was like a bug, he just kept being there, like a — like a bug, right there, buzzzzzzzbzzzzzzbzzzz,” Goldberg said, waving her hands around her face while she was talking to mimic an insect flying around her. “So you felt —”
President Biden interrupted Goldberg by slapping the table then, as if he were swatting the imaginary insect, and laughter erupted around the table and throughout the audience.
Their joke comes just over a week after a second assassination attempt on Trump — at his golf course in Palm Beach, Florida — was foiled by Secret Service agents, and just over two months after the former president was shot in the ear at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Two other rally-goers were gravely injured at the July 13th rally, and firefighter Corey Comperatore was shot and killed while using his body to protect his family.
In the weeks since, with the aid of whistleblowers, Congress has been investigating the United States Secret Service over security failures ahead of and during both the Pennsylvania rally and Trump’s golf outing in Palm Beach.
Despite calls to tone down the rhetoric — especially since a second attempt was made on Trump’s life — Democrats and their media surrogates have continued to claim that Trump is an “existential threat” to democracy. In addition, they have repeatedly claimed that Trump is the only one using violent and extreme rhetoric.
After the second assassination attempt, however, the Trump campaign released a list of more than 50 instances of Democrats using extreme rhetoric and directing it specifically at him.
