Tessa Farrell, the ex-fiancée of slain soap opera actor Johnny Wactor, posted a tearful video to social media on Monday addressing the incident. In it, she made an appeal to Wactor’s killers and urged Los Angeles officials to stop releasing offenders back into society.
The “General Hospital” star was shot dead in L.A. on Saturday after trying to stop a group of thieves from stealing his catalytic converter. He was 37.
“It’s not ok. This can’t keep happening. So many lives are being lost…We have to stop being so mean to each other,” Farrell said in the video. “Let’s love each other. Let’s not steal.”
“If the person who did this, if you’re watching, I’m sorry, but you shot the wrong guy,” the actress continued. “You can get a real job. I know the job market’s hard but we’re all in it together. You don’t have to steal, you know? Especially take a life over it. Human life is disregarded too easy [sic]. We gotta make some changes.”
She went on to say that this tragedy could inspire people to “make changes as a community” and “support each other.”
“Maybe that’s what Johnny’s gift is for us, maybe he’s gifting that to all of us,” the grieving former fiancée said.
Farrell, an actress, also asked for the public’s help in finding Wactor’s killers.
“These criminals can’t keep being on the street and they can’t keep being sent back and have no repercussions for their actions,” she said in the video.
“We can’t keep losing things like this because people are afraid to stand up and do what’s right. Johnny stood up and did what’s right all the time. So let’s be like Johnny and stand up and do what’s right,” she added.
She concluded the video by addressing Wactor, saying she hopes he’s watching “from above.”
“We should find these killers, guys,” Farrell said. “This guy was a rising star and such a bright soul to this world. We can’t keep losing things like this because people are afraid to stand up and do what’s right.”
