“The View” host Whoopi Goldberg complained on Thursday that it was a “bad look” for the Supreme Court to provide due process to former President Donald Trump, arguing in part that the high Court should simply sit back and let the lower courts’ decisions stand.
Goldberg made the comments during Thursday’s broadcast of the ABC midday talk show, claiming that the Supreme Court was somehow “showing favoritism” by taking up the case and expediting it in accordance with Special Counsel Jack Smith’s request.
Cohost Sunny Hostin, a former federal prosecutor, set up the conversation by pointing out the fact that the Court was following the proper procedure: “He gets due process of law just like all of us.”
Hostin went on to say that if the Supreme Court ruled that he did not have immunity, Trump would not be able to appeal a potential conviction by claiming that he did not get due process. “I think that’s maybe why they took it,” she added.
“I think it’s a bad … it’s a … it’s a bad look for them,” Goldberg said. “It’s a very, very … to have taken this. Because this – you know — in some of their other rulings, which I’ve wondered about, you know, people say ‘Well, we don’t want it to look like we’re showing favoritism, so we’re looking at this in a very deep way.’ And suddenly, now, it doesn’t feel like they’re looking at it in a deep way.”
Goldberg went on to say that this case in particular felt like the Court was taking the case to “help” Trump: “There is no reason for them to actually take this case.”

Goldberg then argued that because the lower courts had already ruled — despite the fact that that is the Supreme Court’s job — the highest Court had no reason to step in.
“The two lower courts said, ‘Listen, this is what it is,'” Goldberg said, adding, “And so if they were to turn against what the two lower courts thought, I think it’s very bad for them.”
Goldberg’s comments followed a discussion in which two of her cohosts — Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin — argued that the Supreme Court could be taking up the case and timing the hearings in an effort to “help Trump” by leaving too little time between their ruling and the November presidential election for Special Counsel Jack Smith to prosecute his case against Trump.
