DeSantis Rips Trump For Touting Endorsement From BLM Leader: He Did Nothing But Tweet ‘Law & Order!’ During Riots

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis criticized former President Donald Trump on Wednesday for touting an endorsement from a Black Lives Matter leader.

Mark Fisher, whom Fox News presented as the co-founder of Black Lives Matter Rhode Island, told the network this week that the Democrat Party was “not for” black people and that they were hypocrites.

Fisher also said earlier this month that he endorsed Trump “because everybody else sucks.”

Fisher’s comments led to Trump touting the endorsement and praising Fisher on social media.

“Spoke with Mark Fisher yesterday, a great guy, very honored to have his and BLM’s support,” Trump said. “I have done more for Black people than any other President (Lincoln?), including 10 year funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities, where they had none, Opportunity Zones, Criminal Justice Reform, and much more. Thank you to Mark!”

Newsweek reported that a spokesperson for BLM Rhode Island told the media outlet that Fisher is “no longer affiliated with BLM RI.” The group added, “His position with us was and is terminated.”

Black Lives Matter has faced intense criticism for weeks, including from Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) on Wednesday, after various chapters have publicly expressed support for Hamas’ terrorist attacks against Israel.

DeSantis responded to the endorsement by contrasting his record with Trump’s record when it came to handling the widespread riots that rocked the U.S. in the Summer of 2020 that caused billions of dollars of damage and resulted in thousands of law enforcement officers being attacked.

“BLM praising Donald Trump — and Trump celebrating it — makes perfect sense,” DeSantis wrote on X. “When BLM was burning down cities and assaulting police officers in cities across this country, Trump did nothing but sit in the White House tweeting ‘LAW & ORDER!'”

“We did it differently in Florida. I didn’t just tweet. I took action and called up the National Guard. We were not going to let our cities burn,” he continued. “As President, I will not sit idly by and watch rioters torch American cities.”
