A 15-year-old Florida male is accused of killing a 6-year-old girl in a drive-by shooting; the victim was in her living room at the time she was shot.

What are the details?

Orlando police said officers responded to the 1100 block of Poppy Avenue over a report of multiple shots fired from a passing vehicle around 8:20 p.m. Aug. 29.

Police said a 6-year-old girl — Ajahliyah Hashim — was shot while inside her living room and that medical staff declared her dead. Police said the girl's mother also was shot but that her wounds were not life-threatening.

A third gunshot victim — 19-year-old Isaiyah Wright — was taken to Health Central in Ocoee where medical staff declared him dead, police said.

What happened next?

Police said 15-year-old Nico Brown was arrested Saturday for first-degree homicide in connection with the shooting.

Police added that their investigation is ongoing and that they are encouraging anyone who has information about the shooting to contact the Orlando Police Homicide Unit; individuals also can offer information anonymously through Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.

How are folks reacting?

Commenters on the Orlando Police Department's Facebook post about the arrest were heartbroken over the killings and not at all sympathetic to the suspect. The following are a few of their posts:

  • "Very sad and tragic story," one commenter said. "Glad the person was caught, but what a horrible loss of life all the way around. I would like to see the parents of this 15-[year]-old held responsible also; this is child abuse."
  • "Hopefully this low life stays locked up until it meets its maker," another commenter wrote. "Thoughts and prayers to the families of the victims."
  • "It's a ... shame that a 15-[year]-old could have [so] much hate in his heart," another commenter noted. "What happened in his short life? Prayers for the family that lost their love ones."
  • "His face says all that's going on his head," another commenter observed. "Prayers for the victims."
