Lawyers for former President Donald Trump are urging him to cancel a press conference where he vows to back up his claims of election fraud in Georgia.

“A Large, Complex, Detailed but Irrefutable REPORT on the Presidential Election Fraud which took place in Georgia is almost complete & will be presented by me at a major News Conference at 11:00 A.M. on Monday of next week in Bedminster, New Jersey,” Trump wrote in a statement posted on social media earlier this week. “Based on the results of this CONCLUSIVE Report, all charges should be dropped against me & others – There will be a complete EXONERATION!”

“They never went after those that Rigged the Election,” he continued. “They only went after those that fought to find the RIGGERS!”

However, multiple news organizations are now reporting that Trump’s own lawyers are advising him to cancel the event because it could expose him to further legal consequences. ABC News, which broke the news, reported that the press conference was now “very much in doubt.” Other reports said that some of Trump’s aides were still pushing him to hold the event.

The New York Times reported that the report that Trump was expected to release is a 100+ page document compiled by one of his communications aides who is said to be a “true believer” in the former president’s claims that the election was rigged and stolen.

In response to Trump’s announcement about the Monday press conference, Georgia Republican Governor Brian Kemp posted a screenshot of Trump’s statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, and wrote: “The 2020 election in Georgia was not stolen.”

“For nearly three years now, anyone with evidence of fraud has failed to come forward — under oath — and prove anything in a court of law,” Kemp said. “Our elections in Georgia are secure, accessible, and fair and will continue to be as long as I am governor. The future of our country is at stake in 2024 and that must be our focus.”
