A family of four was found dead inside their home just weeks after their 4-year-old daughter died in a pool drowning incident. Police believe this latest incident was a murder-suicide.
Allen police said they were called to a residence in Allen, Texas, on Monday at about 8:45 p.m. after a family member couldn't gain entry into the home.
"Police contacted a resident who had been locked out of their house, for approximately two hours, and could not get other family members inside to come to the door," police said.
"After other family members arrived at the house, police gained access and found four people dead," they added.
Police Sgt. Jonathan Maness told USA Today that the four people were killed by gunshot.
Imam Abdul Rahman Bashir of the Islamic Association of Allen told KXAS-TV that the family were members of the association and that they were Kurdish Iraqis.
The Islamic Association identified the father of the family as Farman Sherwani, Layla Sherwani as the mother, and 12-year-old Shaheen Sherwani and 2-year-old Mateen Sherwani as their two sons.
"Waking up to the news of losing a four-member family all of a sudden is not something that anyone can be prepared for," he said.
Bashir confirmed that the same family had suffered a tragedy when their daughter had died in a drowning earlier this month.
On Tuesday, the four members of the family were buried at Denton Muslim Cemetery, the same cemetery where the daughter was buried, in accordance with the Muslim faith. "When someone dies, they should quickly be buried and move on in the process in moving to their creator," Bashir concluded.
Bashir added that the same community had suffered a similar family murder-suicide incident in 2021, when two brothers killed four other members of the family before committing suicide.
