The family of a girl who suffered painful burns in an acid attack on July 9 is calling on law enforcement to file more charges in the case from Detroit, Michigan.

11-year-old Deaira Summers had to be treated for three days at a Children's Hospital of Michigan for burns on her back, legs, and arms.

Her family said that that the attack happened after a fight between teenagers at the playground at Vernor Elementary School. While Deaira's cousin was one of the teenagers fighting, her family says the 11-year-old was trying to stop the fight.

Deaira and her siblings left the park in a hurry, but she returned after realizing she had forgotten her purse.

That's when a 12-year-old girl allegedly tossed acid on the girl.

A WDIV-TV report showed the extent of the painful burns the victim suffered.

“Two seconds later, it started like burning and went through my shirt, my shorts,” Deaira said to WDIV.

Her family claims that the alleged attacker's mother handed the girl a bottle with the acid before the attack.

“It was a traumatizing event that took place, and she’s going to remember this for the rest of her life,” said Dominique Summers, the mother of the victim.

The 12-year-old has been charged with felony assault and intent to do great bodily harm and faces a $10,000 bond.

“This is an extremely troubling set of allegations. Instant horrible decision making can have lifelong effects on others," read a statement from Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy to People. "There is no excuse for this."

Police are investigating whether an adult will be charged, according to a spokesperson with the county prosecutor's office.

GoFundMe donation page has been set up for the family of the child in order to help them pay for her medical bills. So far, they have raised over $11.2k.

Here's a local news report about the horrendous incident:
