Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' newly released book "The Courage to Be Free: Florida's Blueprint for America's Revival" is sitting at number one on the Amazon Best Sellers list for books.

The Sunshine State governor, who won re-election in November, is widely viewed as someone who might mount a presidential bid later this year, a move that would mean challenging former President Donald Trump who has already announced a 2024 White House run.

In an opinion piece on CNN, Jay Parini, who teaches at Middlebury College, described DeSantis as "a chilly man, with a heart of ice."

"If the book is any guide, he's going to use his lawyerly skills to dismantle our heritage and, in his Orwellian manner, he's going to proclaim that he's freeing us by doing so," Parini wrote. "Overall, I found the hectoring quality of DeSantis oppressive. He's a chilly man, with a heart of ice and — like so many politicians on both the right and left these days — full of resentments, grudges and the urge to destroy anyone who doesn't agree with him."

"I shudder to think what he might do if handed the presidential bully pulpit," Parini wrote. "The good news, I suppose, is that the lack of charm this book illustrates could well severely limit his chances of success on the national stage."

DeSantis' earlier book, "Dreams from Our Founding Fathers: First Principles in the Age of Obama," was released in 2011 before he won a 2012 election for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

"A firsthand account from the blue-collar boy who grew up to take on Disney and Dr. Fauci, 'The Courage to Be Free' delivers something rare from an elected leader: stories of victory. This book is a winning blueprint for patriots across the country. And it is a rallying cry for every American who wishes to preserve our liberties," a description of DeSantis' latest book states.
