Nearly four years after she had her boyfriend fatally stab her abusive mother, Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s infamous Facebook post celebrating the murder remains online.
“That B—- is dead!” Blanchard posted on June 14, 2015. After seeing the post, friends of Blanchard and her mother, Dee Dee, 48, became worried and called police.
Dee Dee’s death led authorities to uncover the shocking truth about a woman previously believed to be a devoted mom: that she had abused her daughter for years by falsely portraying her as wheelchair-bound and mentally ill.
Experts have said that Blanchard was the victim of Munchausen by proxy, a rare form of abuse in which a guardian exaggerates or induces illness in a child for attention and sympathy.

The Facebook page Blanchard shared with Dee Dee remains active with the disturbing status update as its last post. In a 2015 interview, Greene County Sheriff Jim Arnott told PEOPLE the post ultimately led to Gypsy Rose’s conviction.
“We utilize social media not only to get crime tips but people do post things about their crimes,” Arnott said. “We’ve used it before but not to the extent of a homicide. This is the first time we’ve ever seen something like this posted, and it’s then directly linked back to the killer.”

Dee Dee began to abuse her daughter soon after she was born and up until Dee Dee’s death, when Blanchard was 23.
Blanchard is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to second-degree murder for urging her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, to kill her mom.
Earlier this month, Blanchard’s family friend confirmed to PEOPLE the 27-year-old is engaged. The couple were pen pals before their friendship turned romantic.

Godejohn was convicted of first-degree murder and is now in prison for life without parole. Blanchard told authorities she had Godejohn kill Dee Dee to escape her life of abuse.
