Comedienne Tiffany Haddish will not be getting any vegans or animal rights activists to join her crusade against police brutality. To stop "police killing black people," the "Girls Trip" star has vowed to wear fur every day.
In a post on Instagram over the weekend, Haddish featured a photo of herself in a fur vest that was bequeathed to her by a fan, vowing to "wear it as much as possible" as some kind of Black Lives Matter statement.
"I’mma wear it as much as possible. I don’t know if you guys know this about me, but I’m about to start protesting," Haddish said in the Instagram video. "I’mma wear fur every day until they stop killing black people. When the police stop killing black people, I’ll stop wearing fur. It’s my new protest."
Knowing full well that PETA and the animal rights activist lobby will not appreciate the fur protest, Haddish took the bull by the horns (or grabbed the flower by its thorns).
"So sorry, PETA!" Haddish unabashedly stated. "Don’t be mad at me. Be mad at the police," Haddish continued. "When they stop killing black people, I’ll stop wearing fur… Because people are important, and so are the animals."
Needless to say, the 39-year-old Haddish's newfound protest did not exactly sit well with certain animal lovers on social media. Music producer Russell Simmons, a staunch vegan, asked that Haddish reconsider her protest.
"White supremacy is a disease that takes on many forms and has many symptoms," Simmons wrote in the comments. "The abuse of other beings will not address that… or heal ourselves. I love you Tiffany but I wish you would reconsider this route of protest."
According to Fox News, Haddish did have her share of supporters, including "Insecure" actor Kendrick Sampson, who praised the protest as a work of "genius."
"Look at all the people pissed at this that haven’t ever stood up for Black lives," Sampson said. "Look at the funding behind PETA and other animal rights organizations and how many people will post about a polar bear or a dog before the post about the ongoing centuries’ old epidemic of black/native/brown people being killed and tortured by law enforcement (and others) with impunity."
PETA has not yet issued a public response to Haddish's unapologetic fur protest, but they will undoubtedly be miffed by it, though they will surely be measured in their rebuke given how many of their supporters share common cause with the Black Lives Matter movement.
The famed animal rights organization made headlines recently by urging people to replace commonly used animal idioms like "kill two birds with one stone" with more animal-friendly phrases like "feed two birds with one scone."
This past August, PETA also urged makers of Barnum’s animal crackers to stop picturing the animals in cages on their packages. "Given the egregious cruelty inherent in circuses that use animals and the public's swelling opposition to the exploitation of animals used for entertainment, we urge Nabisco to update its packaging in order to show animals who are free to roam in their natural habitats.," said the organization.
I never heard of this idiot....and wearing fur every day is meaningless!!!! Unless you're a snowflake on a mission to shoot yourself in the foot..... Wear a fur vest? Gimme a break.....
