Jenna Bush Hager is sharing some intimate memories of her time with her beloved grandfather, President George H.W. Bush, who passed away Friday night at 94.
The Today Show correspondent took to Facebook to share an editorial cartoon by Marshall Ramsey, which shows the former president flying his TBM Avenger above the clouds to join his wife, Barbara, and daughter Robin. A word bubble pointing to Barbara shows her saying “We waited for you.” At the bottom, it reads “George Bush 1924- 2018.”

A word bubble pointing to Barbara shows her saying “We waited for you.” At the bottom, it reads “George Bush 1924- 2018.”
“This brought me such comfort this morning,” Bush Hager wrote. She went on to reveal that she had spoken with her grandfather about the afterlife and that he used to be scared of dying, but had a change of heart and in some ways was looking forward to it. “And I started crying. I managed to choke out, “Well, why? What do you look forward to?” And he said, “Well, when I die, I’m going to be reunited with these people that I’ve lost,” she wrote.
Bush Hager went on to ask her grandfather who he hoped to see in the afterlife.
“He replied, ‘I hope I see Robin, and I hope I see my mom. I haven’t yet figured it out if it will be Robin as the three year old that she was, this kind of chubby, vivacious child or if she’ll come as a middle-aged woman, an older woman.’ And then he said, ‘I hope she’s the three-year-old.'”
“Robin was the daughter this giant of a man lost years before to leukemia,” Bush Hager added. “The little girl he held tightly: who spoke the phrase I have heard Gampy repeat for my entire life, forever knitting Robin’s voice into the tightly woven fabric of our family: ‘I love you more than tongue can tell.'”
The post has many commenters mourning the politician and telling their own stories of loss and the afterlife. Among the more than 4,000 comments, Ramsey wrote, “Jenna, glad you saw the cartoon. Peace to your family. He’s mourned by so many of us.”
The cartoon is similar to a viral one done by Ramsey back in April upon the death of Bush’s beloved wife, Barbara. The drawing shows her donning a pair of angel wings as she enters heaven with open arms and proclaims “ROBIN!” Robin, the Bush family’s second child and younger sister to George W. Bush, died ate age 3 in 1953 of leukemia.
Also on Saturday morning, Bush Hager shared some fun family memories on Instagram, including several photos of herself and twin sister Barbara with their grandfather throughout the years.
“Waking up missing this giant of a man who gave me everything. He taught me and my family about service, family, decency, the power of gentle words and a beautiful heart. I will miss him desperately but so happy he and my Grandmother are back together.”
