A photo taken by Ivanka Trump that was intended to spread some holiday cheer quickly sparked into a controversial debate over her father's administration.
The first daughter posted a montage of photos that show her oldest and youngest children, Arabella and Theodore, exploring the White House's Christmas decorations to both Twitter and Instagram. In one of the photos, Arabella, festively dressed in a red dress, helps her younger brother up the stairs. Another shot shows the youngest Kushner mesmerized by the White House Christmas orchestra.
"Holiday cheer at the White House," the mom of three captioned the shot, along with a Christmas tree emoji. While many commented on the sweet photos and the "magical" decorations, others were quick to respond with mentions of the ongoing immigration crisis and how the Trump administration has been dealing with the migrants.
"I wish all the kids in border detention centers could be with their families this holiday season," commented one tweeter.
Said another, "How about kids locked in tents in TX far from their parents? Those kids are spending Xmas AWAY from family. How do you think those kids feel?".
Recent news reports reveal harrowing details about the circumstances of the thousands of immigrants trying to enter the states -- drownings, tear gassings and injuries to name a few.
According to NBC News, nearly 4,000 immigrants have died or one missing in the past four years while attempting to make their way to the United States from Mexico. Celebrities and politicians alike have criticized the Trump administration's take on the crisis -- while Ivanka's personal photos are seemingly not safe from any backlash.
This recent shot -- one of the few she's posted of her kids since May -- during such a tense time may indicate a shift in her approach to the criticism.
This isn't the first time that Ivanka has been slammed for her familial photos. Back in November, the first daughter posted a photo of her son Joseph fishing. "Your father teargassed kids your son’s age today," commented one Twitter user, while others posted images from the border or commented on Trump's stance on global warming.
Another photo from January 2017 compared Trump's silver Carolina Herrera dress to the foil blankets distributed to migrant families in detention centers at the same time
And in May, Ivanka posted a shot cuddling her youngest son during the height of family separations, to which many Twitter users begged the first daughter to take action.
