A woman who had her car broken into was stunned when she found a note stuck to the vehicle slamming her for not cleaning up the glass.
Danielle Mills, 29, was at home in Bristol at around 8pm on Tuesday evening when her partner Michael heard an alarm sound outside their house.
Bristol Live reports they quickly realised the noise was coming from their own vehicle.
After running outside, the couple found a window of their car had been smashed in and Danielle’s laptop had been stolen from the vehicle.
After suffering the intrusion and loss of property, the last thing Danielle expected upon going out to the car was a note tucked under the windscreen wiper, criticising her for not clearing up all of the glass the night before.
The note reads: “If you feel like smashing your windows, that’s fine. But please sweep up your glass.
“We don’t all need punctures because of you. Many thanks, residents of Morley Road with cars, bikes, and kids.”
Danielle, who was checking on the car at approximately 6am yesterday morning, has described her shock at finding the callous note left on her vehicle.
She said: “At first I thought it might have been a note from a witness trying to help, but as soon as I read it I was just absolutely lost for words.
“I don’t know if this was someone’s idea of a tongue-in-cheek joke or something like that, but it wasn’t funny - I was quite angry when I saw it and, to be honest, quite upset.
“I had tried by best last night to clean up what I could but obviously it was dark and I was planning on doing it this morning.
"I could maybe understand if we had left glass everywhere for days on end, but it was a matter of hours.
“I don’t understand why somebody would think this was acceptable - I think it’s fairly obvious what had happened and I’m sure most people would expect a slightly more understanding response from a neighbour.”
In an appeal for information, Danielle has pinned posters around the street calling for help from potential witnesses - complete with her own response to the note, explaining what had happened and expressing her disappointment at the cold reaction to the crime.
No information has yet materialised, however police are appealing for witnesses in relation to the incident.
A spokesperson from Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: “We received reports of a theft from a car, during which a laptop was stolen, between 6pm and 8.30pm on Tuesday evening.
“If anyone was in the area at the time and noticed any suspicious behaviour, please contact police by calling 101 and stating crime reference number 5218242540.
“We advise that people do not leave valuables in their vehicles, and recommend either locking them securely out of sight or removing them completely.”
