The story of David Charles Hahn (1976-2016) is not an ordinary one. The boy, since his early years, was always fascinated with chemistry and science and conducted numerous chemical experiments just for fun. However, no one really expected that one day he would actually build a fully functioning nuclear reactor in his own backyard.
Back in 1994, in a shed next to his mother’s house, the then 17-year-old David Hahn made a nuclear reactor from batteries, old clocks, lanterns, uranium from Czechoslovakia and duct tape. The story attracted media attention and David was named the ‘Radioactive Boy Scout.’

  1. Actually he did. It was powered by nuclear radiation. There was a breeder reaction of increasing radioactivity where the level of radiation in the reactor increased over time.
    Nuclear - Reactor.

The whole point is that it is not necessary to involve GE or the Russians to actually build a dangerous nuclear 'machine' that generates radiation in a 'run-away' (or at least away) reaction.
If he had considered more the issues of control and damping, it might still be running now.

  2. He didn't manage to build a nuclear reactor. The article is so full of technical errors that the editor should be ashamed that it was published.
