Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy of California is granting Fox News host Tucker Carlson exclusive access to more than 41,000 hours of footage from the Jan. 6 rioting at the U.S. Capitol.

The development was first reported by Mike Allen from Axios, who cited sources close to McCarthy.

The report said that producers from the show were at the Capitol last week in order to sift through the video content from multiple angles during the rioting in 2021. Clips from the trove of footage are likely to start airing on the show in the coming weeks.

The report also quoted Carlson as saying to Axios, "There was never any legitimate reason for this footage to remain secret."

Footage from the rioting at the U.S. Capitol was released at hearings from the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 rioting.

"If there was ever a question that's in the public's interest to know, it's what actually happened on January 6. By definition, this video will reveal it," continued Carlson.

"It's impossible for me to understand why any honest person would be bothered by that," he added.

McCarthy angered some when he disagreed with the contention that Ashli Babbitt, a rioter who was fatally shot by a Capitol police officer, was "murdered."

Earlier in February, former Vice President Mike Pence was subpoenaed in the special counsel investigations into the rioting on Jan. 6 and the classified documents seized in a raid on Mar-a-Lago in Florida.

Many on the left believe that an investigation will reveal information proving that former President Donald Trump had a direct role in encouraging the protesters who attacked the Capitol in hopes of overturning the results of the 2020 presidential election.
