“The View” host Sunny Hostin claimed on Monday — in the wake of the Saturday night shooting at a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs — that Jesus would be “the Grand Marshal” of the gay pride parade.

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg — back after a week spent recovering from her second bout with COVID — began by blaming the shooting on Republican rhetoric and claiming that Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (R-CO) had been “in the forefront of dissing LGBTQ+ people.”

Goldberg, after conceding that no motive had yet been reported for the shooting, immediately placed the blame on Republicans and accused Boebert directly of spreading anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric.

“Words matter,” she said, adding, “Words matter and people like Lauren Boebert, who, you know, has been in the forefront of dissing LGBTQ+ people, is now saying her prayers and thoughts go with the families. Well, they don’t really need your prayers and thoughts, they needed your votes. That’s what they need.”

Republican co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin lamented the number of senators in her own party who had not backed the marriage equality bill just days earlier, arguing that all 100 senators should have been in favor of that.

Hostin jumped into the conversation, claiming without any evidence that Republican-led state legislatures were behind some “300 bills to restrict LGBTQ rights” and adding, “If you don’t want to go to a gay club because you don’t like gay people, don’t go to the club. Why do you gotta shoot up the club?”

Co-host Sara Haines argued that gay bars were the most inclusive places in the world and claimed that religious people had “weaponized” their faith in order to attack the LGBTQ+ community. “We’re living in a time where people have taken a self-righteous flag in the way they live and they have banged it over people’s heads,” she complained.

Hostin then asserted that if Jesus were present on earth, he “would be the grand marshal at the pride parade.”

Goldberg rounded out the conversation by suggesting that people were afraid of the LGBTQ+ community and should therefore just avoid it altogether.

She then pivoted to attack Christians directly, adding, “You don’t want to just have your feelings. You want everybody else to join you. You can scream, you can cuss, you can do all the things that you say, but you know what? Gay people are here. They’re not going anywhere. There is nothing else you can do, you know. You can yell and scream, but, you know, as the Lord, as everybody was talking about, you know, made in God’s image.”

“Keep that in mind when you are trying to figure out where you stand as a human being let alone a Christian,” Goldberg concluded.
