Jewish Activists Speak Against Dem Candidate Who Worked With Anti-Israel Organizations

Pro-Israel activists are speaking out against a Democratic Los Angeles city attorney candidate citing his past work with anti-Israel groups and desire to implement progressive crime policies, according to the Washington Free Beacon.

Candidate Faisal Gill has been criticized for working with alleged anti-Israel organizations, pushing for safe injection sites and promoting crime policies that were so “extreme” that California Democratic representative Karen Bass withdrew her endorsement of him, according to the Free Beacon. Bass, who is currently running as a candidate for Los Angeles mayor, withdrew her endorsement after Gill announced he would stop prosecuting misdemeanors after 100 days, the Free Beacon reported.

“At a time of rising anti-Semitism in L.A., the thought of Faisal Gill taking charge of enforcing our laws is terrifying for the Jewish community. My in-laws fled the horrors of anti-Semitism in Syria in the dark of night; Faisal Gill has decades-long track record of cozying up to people who hold that same ideology. I’m the mother of their descendants. I want my children to be safe, respected, and publicly Jewish,” Adeena Bleich, a community activist and nonprofit leader, told the Free Beacon.

Gill currently serves as a spokesperson for the American Muslim Council (AMC), an organization backed by the Muslim Brotherhood that allegedly promotes hatred toward the Jewish community, according to the Free Beacon. AMC’s founder, Abdulrahman Alamoudi, was sentenced to 23 years in prison in 2004 for financing terrorism.

Gill’s campaign is also funded by the Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a group that has reportedly pushed anti-Israel narratives, according to the Free Beacon. In 2021, CAIR executive director Zahra Billoo described Jewish organizations as “enemies” who promote Islamophobia.

“Gill has tried to separate himself from the Islamist affiliations he held during his years working for extremist groups like AMC. Yet, if you take a look at his campaign finance records, you will find that little has changed since his days of working with suspected Al Qaeda financiers and Israel haters,” Benjamin Baird, a researcher with the Middle East Forum think tank, told the Free Beacon.

Gill did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
