Videos that circulated online over the weekend showed a crazy armed heist that happened in New York City in which criminals allegedly stole tens of thousands of dollars from a man trying to drive away from them.
The New York Post reported that the suspects stole $20,000 from the driver of a Toyota Rav4 during the robbery that took place in broad day light.
Video showed the Rav4 driving when a black Mercedes rammed the vehicle from the side, turning the small SUV sideways. The SUV then drove up on the sidewalk with the Mercedes in hot pursuit before ultimately getting pinned against the curb.
A man jumped out of the passenger side of the Mercedes with a handgun and began pounding on the window of the SUV. The driver of the SUV got out and put his hands up as the man from the Mercedes ran around to the driver’s side of the vehicle, went inside the vehicle, and ran out after retrieving a black bag.
The man jumped back into the Mercedes as it then sped off to get away from the scene of the crime.
One video of the incident showed it unfolding from street-level.
Another video showed the incident toward its conclusion from several stories above.
A photo in the New York Post showed that law enforcement officials found the black Mercedes abandoned on the street a short time later.
The New York Police Department’s (NYPD) 19th Precinct said that the incident happened on 2nd Avenue, East 91st Street to East 92nd Street on the Upper East Side.
The NYPD asked the public to report any information that they had about the incident as detectives continued to gather evidence.
