Getting rid of dinner guests is a challenge for any host, but it’s even harder when your guest is leader of the free world.
Former Chancellor George Osborne has revealed that the Queen once asked him to tell Barack Obama to leave a state banquet at Buckingham Palace.
‘The Queen came up to me and said: “Will you tell the President it’s late and I want to go to bed,” ’ Osborne recalled to fellow alumni of St Paul’s school. ‘Barack Obama was having a great time, kind of knocking back vodka martinis with his mates, and I was, like: “Oh, my God, I’m going to be the person that has to go and tell him to go home.” ’
Obama may have got his revenge two years later, when at a G8 summit he repeatedly called Osborne ‘Jeffrey’.
Osborne made the remarks to former Tory MP and minister Lord Ed Vaizey at an event held by the Old Pauline Club - an association for former pupils of St Paul's School.

According to Business Insider, who attended the online event, said President Obama was the quest of honour at the banquet in Buckingham Palace in May 2011 along with his wife Michelle.
However, the visit of President Donald Trump did not avoid diplomatic incident after the billionaire businessman boasted on television about having 'automatic chemistry' with Queen Elizabeth during his state visit to the UK.
The former American leader praised the British monarch as a 'spectacular woman' but denied fist-bumping her when he arrived for the ceremonial welcome at Buckingham Palace.
During an interview with Fox News, aired upon his return to the US, Mr Trump also said people had noticed how well he and the Queen had connected.
He added: 'The meeting with the Queen was incredible, I think I can say I really got to know her because I sat with her many times and we had automatic chemistry, you will understand that feeling.
'It’s a good feeling. But she’s a spectacular woman.'
When asked by Fox News’ Laura Ingraham if he fist-bumped the Queen, Mr Trump said: 'I did not, but I had a great relationship, we had a really great time.
'There are those that say they have never seen the Queen have a better time, a more animated time.
'We had a period we were talking solid straight, I didn’t even know who the other people at the table were, never spoke to them. We just had a great time together.'
When asked if he would keep the conversation going, Mr Trump added: 'Yes I am, she is a spectacular woman, an incredible woman.'
The controversial billionaire-turned-politician was feted with a ceremonial welcome and a grand state banquet at Buckingham Palace during his stay in London.
He was also sat next to the Queen at the D-Day commemorations at Southsea Common in Portsmouth.
