Trump doubles down on his push to get Max Miller to Congress despite Stephanie Grisham claiming he abused her and fought over their dog

Former President Donald Trump reaffirmed his 'total endorsement' for former White House aide Max Miller – who went through a nasty breakup with former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham – amid the possibility Miller could gain a new Republican opponent.

Trump was typically upbeat about his former aide's chances, writing in a message from his PAC that 'Saving America starts with saving the GOP from RINOs, sellouts, and known losers. My great Trump-endorsed candidate in Ohio, Max Miller, is doing both.'

But Miller could face new challenges in a redrawn Ohio district after the state legislature released new lines signed into law by Gov. Mike DeWine last weekend. The redrawn 13th district now includes more Democrats – and Miller could draw another Republican opponent even after his earlier opponent dropped out.

As Trump put it: ''After I endorsed Max, his RINO opponent , Anthony Gonzalez, was forced into early retirement. A big win for the GOP! Now, with Ohio's new Congressional lines, Max will be running in the 13th District where he will help lead the path back to a strong GOP majority.'

Gonzalez, who was one of 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Trump after the Capitol riot, announced this fall he would not run for reelection, calling Trump a 'cancer' on the party. He told the New York Times he could have won a 'brutally hard primary' against Miller.

Trump's backing carries substantial weight in a Republican primary – although it will cut both ways in the new district, if courts allow the lines to stand. President Joe Biden narrowly won the new district in 2020 by less than a percentage point.

'Max will be a powerful voice for America First and will fight to rein in the Communist Democrats' radical agenda. Max has my Complete and Total Endorsement!' Trump wrote Tuesday.

Shay Hawkins, a former aide to Republican Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, has indicated he may run for the seat. 'I have always relished the opportunity to represent my home,' Hawkins  said in a statement. 'Over the past few days, I have received encouragement from all corners of Northeast Ohio to seek the Republican nomination for the new 13th Congressional District. I will make my plans known in the coming days,' he said.

He declined to elaborate on a statement provided to Cleveland.com when contacted by DaiyMail.com, but said a lot of people have been reaching out about the race.

Grisham had a nasty breakup with Miller, and battled to retain the French bulldog she says he gave her as a gift

Grisham had a nasty breakup with Miller, and battled to retain the French bulldog she says he gave her as a gift

Miller went through a difficult breakup with Grisham, who in addition to serving as White House press secretary for Trump served as spokeswoman and later chief of staff for first lady Melania Trump.

She described an angry breakup with Miller.  Miller filed a defamation suit against her after she accused him of abuse in an op ed and in a CNN interview while promoting her book, I'll Take Your Questions Now.

In her book, she also references the spat with Miller over their French bulldog, Gus, after the split. She says he gave her the dog as a gift.

'[Miller's] name was on the records and paperwork that we had (because I had always been holding the dog when those things were being filled out),' she wrote.

'Keeping the dog he bought me for my birthday was the final insult,' Grisham told Zenger News in October. 'Who does that?' Miller's lawyer denied the dog every belonged to Grisham.

Trump blasted Grisham after her tell-all, where he accused him of having a 'terrifying' temper. ogling a young press aide, and told Russia's Vladimir Putin 'going to act a little tougher with you for a few minutes.'

Trump blasted her in a strikingly personal statement where he said she 'didn't have what it takes' and claimed she was 'bitter after her break up,' in a reference to her split with Miller.
