Twitter will not allow Donald Trump's tweets to be restored to its platform, despite work by the National Archives to preserve the former President's account, it has been revealed.

The social media company permanently banned Trump's personal account, @realDonaldTrump, two days after the deadly U.S. Capitol riot on January 6, claiming that his tweets violated policies against the 'glorification of violence'.

The National Archives and Records Administration, which already maintains archives for many official and personal accounts from the former Trump administration, has been working to create an archive of Trump's tweets, Politico reported.

It is the job of the National Archives to preserve records of each president's time in office, for the benefit of future generations.

Official archives are normally hosted natively on the platform they were made on for the public to interact with.

But Twitter have insisted they will not restore Trump's tweets to their plat

The National Archives told Politico it would instead post the preserved tweets to the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library website.

'I can confirm that our teams have been working with NARA on the preservation of Tweets from @realDonaldTrump, as is standard with any administration transition and as we've done previously,' Liz Kelley, a Twitter spokesperson, told DailyMail.com.

'We have a long-standing, collaborative partnership with NARA on a number of issues, including to preserve records in accordance with appropriate laws.'

Kelley continued: 'Given that we permanently suspended @realDonaldTrump, the content from the account will not appear on Twitter as it did previously or as archived administration accounts do currently, regardless of how NARA decides to display the data it has preserved.'

'Administration accounts that are archived on the service are accounts that were not in violation of the Twitter Rules,' she said.

NARA spokesperson James Pritchett told Politico that federal archivists are 'working to make the exported content available … as a download.'

'Twitter is solely responsible for the decision of what content is available on their platform,' Pritchett told the outlet.

'NARA works closely with Twitter and other social media platforms to maintain archived social accounts from each presidential administration, but ultimately the platform owners can decline to host these accounts.'

He continued: 'NARA preserves platform independent copies of social media records and is working to make that content available to the public.'

Pritchett said that the National Archives will include all tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account 'including any blocked or deleted Tweets that have been transferred' to the agency.

DailyMail.com has reached out to the Office of Donald J. Trump for more information and additional comment.

After Twitter banned Trump's account, CEO Jack Dorsey claimed he 'did not celebrate' removing the former Commander-in-Chief's account.

'I do not celebrate or feel pride in our having to ban @realDonaldTrump from Twitter, or how we got here. After a clear warning we'd take this action, we made a decision with the best information we had based on threats to physical safety both on and off Twitter. Was this correct?' Dorsey tweeted,

'I believe this was the right decision for Twitter. We faced an extraordinary and untenable circumstance, forcing us to focus all of our actions on public safety. Offline harm as a result of online speech is demonstrably real, and what drives our policy and enforcement above all.'

Dorsey, however, acknowledged that the ban 'has real and significant ramifications.'

'I feel a ban is a failure of ours ultimately to promote healthy conversation. And a time for us to reflect on our operations and the environment around us,' Dorsey said.

Last month, Sen. Bernie Sanders told The Ezra Klein Show in an interview that he did not 'feel particularly comfortable' with Twitter's permanent ban of Trump and did not like 'giving that much power to a handful of high-tech people.'

'Look, you have a former president in Trump, who is a racist, a sexist, a homophobe, a xenophobe, a pathological liar, an authoritarian, somebody who doesn't believe in the rule of law. This is a bad news guy,' Sanders said.

'But if you're asking me, do I feel particularly comfortable that the president, the then-president of the United States, could not express his views on Twitter? I don't feel comfortable about it.'
