Brooklyn Center City Manager Curt Boganey was fired on Monday after he said the police officer who shot Daunte Wright deserved due process.

A police officer shot and killed 20-year-old Daunte Wright on Sunday night during a traffic stop.

Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon called the shooting of Daunte Wright an “accidental discharge.”

“It is my belief that the officer had the intention to employ their taser, but instead shot Mr. Wright with a single bullet,” he said.

Boganey was fired by the Brooklyn City Council for daring to say the officer deserves due process.

“Daunte Wright did not get due process in that situation — she needs to be fired immediately,” an angry presser attendee said to Curt Boganey.

Mayor Elliott announced Boganey was fired.

One City Councilmember said she voted to fire Boganey because she feared the mob would hunt her down and destroy her property.

The Minnesota Star Tribune reported:

At a virtual council workshop, Council Member Kris Lawrence-Anderson said she voted to remove the city manager because she feared for her property and retaliation by protestors if she had voted to keep him.

“He was doing a great job. I respect him dearly,” she said. “I didn’t want repercussions at a personal level.”
