After Biden Makes Overture to Iran in Yemen, Iran's Proxies Respond by Launching Armed Drone Attack (Cartoon)

Almost immediately after Biden made an overture to Iran and reversed American support for the Saudi led campaign in Yemen, Iran’s proxies in that war torn country responded by launching an armed drone attack on southern Saudi Arabia, as Reuters reports.

“The Saudi-led military coalition engaged in Yemen said on Sunday it had intercepted and destroyed two armed drones launched by the Iran-aligned Houthi movement towards southern Saudi Arabia.

A bomb-laden unmanned aerial vehicle was intercepted early on Sunday, coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Malki said in a statement on Saudi state media.

Coalition forces later intercepted another drone, also launched towards southern Saudi Arabia with the aim of targeting “civilians and civilian objects,” a second statement quoted Malki as saying.

The coalition intervened in Yemen in March 2015 against the Houthis after the group ousted the Saudi-backed government from power in the capital Sanaa, in a conflict widely seen in the region as a proxy war between Saudi Arabia and Iran.”

This comes after Biden reversed course in Yemen and Iran’s foreign minister praised his decision as a “step towards correcting past mistakes.”

“Iran’s foreign ministry said on Saturday a new U.S. stand on the Yemen war can be a “step towards correcting past mistakes,” after Biden said this week Washington was ending its support for a Saudi Arabia-led military campaign in Yemen.

“Stopping support … for the Saudi coalition, if not a political maneuver, could be a step towards correcting past mistakes,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh was quoted as saying by state media.

Biden said on Thursday that the more than six-year war “has to end.” He also named veteran U.S. diplomat Timothy Lenderking as the U.S. special envoy for Yemen in a bid to step up American diplomacy to try to end the war.”

Having the Iranians praise your policy positions is a sure sign that you are headed in the wrong direction, but clearly the Bidenistas do not see it that way.

Looks like we can expect several years of disrespecting our allies while appeasing enemies like the Iranian government.
