 A Maryland woman shot dead her police officer husband and then killed herself, authorities said.    

Just 12 hours before Det. Timothy Eugene Francis was shot dead, his wife, Christina Lynn Francis, shared a video of the couple's wedding on Facebook. 

The post lamented over the couple getting 'lost in petty s***' and the 'marriage wasn't put together for a great [reason].'  

'We had 6 years of experience and [memories] that should have taken [precedence] over everything in everything we did,' she wrote.

Authorities dispatched to the Francis' home at 6pm on Friday for a report of two people found dead inside. 

A preliminary investigation found that a family member had tried to contact Christina throughout the day, but didn't hear back from her or Timothy.

The family member decided to check on the couple at their home, but discovered the deceased bodies and alerted authorities. 

Police said they found evidence that the Christina, 41, had shot Timothy, 50, and then herself.


It's unclear what led up to the alleged murder-suicide or any motives. 

A spokesperson told DailyMail.com that the department is not releasing details regarding the incident at this time and the medical examiner's office will confirm the official cause of death.

However, authorities confirmed that the weapon was a handgun and that there were multiple firearms inside the home at the time.

The Facebook post shared by Christina also recalled their marraige and wedding as a special to the couple. 

'This day meant everything to me,' Christina wrote, referring to when they tied the knot three years ago.

'I love you and what we had together...YOU AND I BELONGED TOGETHER AND ALWAYS...Tim and Christina Francis together.'

She also shared a photo of her two children on Friday, calling them her 'pride and joy' before adding 'love you both with my heart.' 

Both posts were flooded with tributes, condolences and prayers for the families. 

After news of the tragedy spread, local law enforcement agencies shared their condolences and lauded Timothy as a stellar officer.  

'Mourning the tragic loss of our colleague and friend is extremely difficult,' MPD Chief Peter Newsham said in a statement, according to WTOP and WUSA9.

'Detective Francis spent two decades protecting the community from violence, and to learn that he was the victim of a homicide is heartbreaking.'

The Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia shared a photo of Timothy on social media, saying he was a veteran detective who served 20 years on the force.

Most recently, he worked as a detective on the Homicide Unit's Natural Squad. 

'MPD Det. Timothy Francis, was tragically shot and killed in a domestic-related homicide yesterday. The suspect was also found deceased & Charles County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating this case,' the department wrote.

'Det. Francis had 20 years of service. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family & loved ones.'

The Washington D.C. Police Union added that Timothy's career in law enforcement followed his father's footsteps. 

'Tim was one of the best detectives in CID. His father was also a detective that worked nearly 45 years for MPD,' the DC Police Union wrote.

'Tim was a stand up guy that always held his ground. We are all still reeling from this news. The MPD has lost a true detective today and he will not soon be replaced.'
