Cuomo Admits Virus Isn’t Spreading in Schools, Vows to Close Them Anyway Because of Deal With Teachers Union (Cartoon)

During an interview with MSNBC’s Katy Tur, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo essentially admitted that schools in NYC may close next week, not because the virus is spreading in schools, but because of a general agreement the city made with the all powerful Democrat run teachers unions.

“Are schools going to close on Monday if we top three percent,” Tur asked.

Cuomo answered “Yep. Because the way it works in New York with schools, we have 700 local school districts, and we set parameters and we let local governments then set parameters for their particular district with their parents and with their teachers.”

Cuomo then admitted that covid is not being spread in a major way in schools when he said “we’re not seeing spread in the schools. You see a very low percentage of positivity in the schools.”

Later in the interview Cuomo explained exactly why schools in NYC might close despite the fact that covid is not spreading in the schools “The local school districts consulted their parents, the teachers at the time, the teachers union at the time and they came up with a an agreement about the conditions that would open the schools and what would close the schools.”

“The agreement in New York City was just that,” Cuomo added. “If the infection rate in New York City went above three percent, the schools close. That was the agreement.”

Watch the entire exchange via MSNBC:

So basically schools in NYC may close as soon as Monday, even though covid is not spreading in schools, because of an agreement between the district and the teachers union.

So the plan is to throw the kids, and the parents of those kids, under the bus to make the teachers and their unions happy.

Sad, pathetic and entirely predictable.
