Retired Pleasantville Fire Department battalion chief Neal Loch and an athletic trainer attended to the injured boy, who was unconscious and appeared to be bleeding from the neck.
The boy was then flown to the hospital 'with some serious injuries,' Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner said.
The injured man - who is not related to the boy - was also taken to an area hospital in serious condition, although it's unclear if he was shot.
None of the players or referees were said to have been hurt during the incident, which led to the game being suspended.
Tyner said the investigation is 'active and ongoing' and that the football field was shut down and would be combed over by forensics.
Authorities said that a weapon has been found, but that they are still looking for the shooter.
Former Pleasantville athletic director Derek Carrington told the Press of Atlantic City that the gunman ran out of the stands and across the field toward the parking lot.
Tyner told NJ.com that the game was 'the most well-attended high school football game for this school in years, so there are many witnesses to the incident that are currently being interviewed.'
Hundreds of people were said to have scaled the fences and run towards Pleasantville High School along with the football players.
