A New Jersey woman arrived home from vacation to discover that her Uber driver helped himself a $100 tip and a five-star review.
After flying home to Pennsylvania from Alaska on Monday, Donna Wilson-Booker and her husband caught an Uber ride from Philadelphia International Airport. But during the drive to Willingboro, she noticed a few things that seemed a bit off about the driver.
“He seemed nice, very talkative, and told us he was from Vietnam. He began to ask too many personal questions though, such as the cost of my vacation and what type of employment we had,” Wilson-Booker posted on Facebook.
Despite using his GPS, the driver seemed to miss an obvious turn. Later, he asked Wilson-Booker if he could use her app to correct the path, saying that Uber is strict about drivers taking non-authorized routes. Not wanting him to get into trouble, Wilson-Booker handed over her phone so he could make the correction.
“He took it, did something, thanked me, and left,” Wilson-Booker posted on Facebook. “Later while at home, I checked the app to rate and give a tip and I noticed that it didn’t come up as usually. I looked at the trip and saw that the driver gave himself a five star rating and a $100 tip!!! I was furious and immediately contact Uber with my complaint.”
Instead of paying $54 for the ride, Wilson-Booker and her husband were charged $154.71, according to Fox 29 Philadelphia.
She didn’t receive a reply on the app immediately, so Wilson-Booker took to social media to air her grievance. The company replied over Twitter.
“I was told that the tips come to the driver immediately and they could not refund that to my credit card, so they credited my Uber account $100. I’m still mad about this cause I’m still responsible for that bill on my credit card, and I don’t use Uber much to use that credit,” Wilson-Booker wrote.
A spokesperson for Uber tells Yahoo Lifestyle that not only did Wilson-Booker receive a full refund, the driver no longer works for the company.
“Uber is deeply committed to the safety of our riders. We have issued a full refund to this rider and have removed the driver’s access to the app,” the company tells Yahoo Lifestyle.
But for Wilson-Booker, the driver’s deceit is infuriating.
“It’s a lesson learned for other people that there are scam artists out there like that,” Wilson-Booker told Fox 29 Philadelphia.
Your phone is almost as important as your kid....would you give your kid to a complete stranger? Hell no....then why did this stupid nig give her phone to a complete stranger....try she ain't too smart....duh...

ReplyDeleteactually you can highlight that portion of your bill and pay the rest of the bill and include a note explaining that you refuse to pay that highlighted portion.

ReplyDeleteScam waitress? Huh? Why would you leave a zero tip? Was her service that lousy? You need to stop eating out....people depend on tips and if you're too cheap to leave one....you get lousy service the next time you eat there....but what do I know.

ReplyDeleteNext time get a Taxi with a licensed and insured driver vetted by a real company. Also, pay cash.
ReplyDeleteWhen you get the bill in a restaurant, if you just want to leave a cash tip make sure you write none in the tip section. I once put in 0 and the waitress added a 2 to make it $20.
