This 9-Year-Old Boy Has Raised Nearly $90,000 To Provide Bulletproof Vests To Police Dogs

Here’s your feel-good story for the day.

Nine-year-old Brady Snakovsky from Strongsville, Ohio dreams of being a police officer one day. When he was 8 years old, he was watching “Live PD” – a modern version of “Cops” – and noticed that while the officers wore bulletproof vests, the K9 officers were not.
Snakovsky asked his mother if they could purchase the dog its own bulletproof vest, but soon learned each one cost upwards of $1,200. Undeterred, Snakovsky and his mother, Leah Tornabene, created a GoFundMe page to raise money to buy a single vest. The fundraiser went viral and was noticed by the company that makes the vests, Line of Fire Defence Systems, out of Canada. The company donated a vest to help Snakovsky, according to The Strongsville Post.
That was last year. Since then, Snakovsky and his mother have raised more than $87,000 to purchase vests for K9 officers. The latest update on the fundraiser, from a month ago, says Snakovsky has provided 85 vests for K9 officers so far and has a waiting list of 57 police officers asking for a vest for their four-legged partners.
Snakovsky and his mother also started Brady’s K9 Fund to help his cause, which includes a page showcasing the K9 officers who have received vests and where they serve.
Snakovsky told the Post last year that part of the reason he respects police is because his stepfather is an officer.
“Not a lot of K-9s can get the vests because they are pretty expensive. There are a lot of bad people that want to hurt them. I love K-9 officers. My stepdad, he’s a police officer,” Snakovsky told the outlet. His mother says the third-grader has asked his stepfather to become a K9 officer.
Snakovsky also told the outlet that he already knows what he wants to name his eventual K9 partner.
“I have a K-9 name picked out … Heavy. I think it’s funny,” he said.
His mother, of course, is proud of Snakovsky’s efforts. In an email to The Daily Wire, she said she was still amazed at what her son has accomplished.
"I am very proud of the work ethic Brady has put into his foundation. I never thought wanting to help one dog would turn into helping close to 100 so far. It is wonderful to see a young boy who saw a need for something and decided to fix it," she said.
Tornabene expressed similar pride last year to the Post.
“He’s very caring especially for his police officers here locally,” she told the Post. “It just makes me feel good that he does want to give back and he supports those helping out in our community. There’s nothing better than helping out those that help us. I’m happy to see him reach his goals, and I hope that he’s able to help the Strongsville Department in the future because they are his favorite.”
The outlet also quoted Strongsville Police Chief Mark Fender’s support of the boy’s efforts.
“His eagerness and passion to raise funds for the purchase of a K-9 bulletproof vest is a gesture to be recognized. Brady’s parents must be proud. Even though we have no immediate need for a K-9 vest this year, we are hopeful to acquire a third dog in 2019 and outfit the K-9 addition with the help of young Brady,” he said.
Because the vests cost so much, Snakovsky and his mother said they work directly with the manufacturer to receive the Law Enforcement cost.
“Their technology offers a vest that is lightweight and helps regulate body heat keeping the K9 cool. It provides ballistic and edged weapon protection for vital organs all while allowing complete freedom of movement. These vests allow the K9 to wear it throughout their entire shift and through training days so they can focus on what they do best,” the family wrote on the GoFundMe page.
Snakovsky added that he hopes to provide as many vests as he can to K9 officers and that one day they will all have one.

  1. Bless your heart little boy!!!! It's stories like these that warms my heart. The police dogs and police horses are not adequately protected and end up dying of bullet wounds all too often. A good police dog is a culmination of years of expensive training and not all dogs make the grade to become full working police dogs. This little boy is a real credit to today's spoiled rotten kids who think nothing about anyone but them....this little boy will grow up to be a very worthwhile police officer...and maybe even County Sheriff one day!!!

  3. Zap I met a police horse in Ft Lauderdale that had been hit with an iron pipe on his face….he would have benefited from some body armor!!! Onyx was a huge (and had a lot of Clydesdale in him) and I mean huge horse and was injured while he was on duty at a local riot.. And back in 2016 a police dog in Akron O was shot while chasing a perp with a gun and shot the dog who later died of his injuries.. These working service animals are just doing their thankless jobs and sadly are abused by the criminals…… The little boy has his heart in the right place…… I may not like the police either but the service animals are just doing their thankless jobs…they are just caught in the daily violence or left in police cars on hot days and die. They didn’t chose to be a police animal……

  4. Save that money to pay Citizens they damage.
Under construction/development. Feel free to run with it, share, develop:
It is Time for a National Memorial to Citizen Victims .
Mandatory Law needed: The Abused Citizen Victim Apology Law:
Any time the police botch a raid on the wrong house, murder a Citizen for no cause, recklessly injure, kill, a Citizen, and other false arrests where their TAXPAYER FUNDED body-cameras "just happen" to not work, and every other screw-up situation ....... EVERY cop anywhere in the area shall assemble, "Take a Knee" and cover their hearts with their covers in apology. with their cars flashing lights .................... The same actions will take place for Citizen funerals.
A prominent memorial to be erected in every large city dedicated to the innocent victims of abusive and corrupt police. Annually, a day of reflection and regret. on date (May 26th?) to be determined, there will be a Citizen Victim Day whereupon EVERY cop will assemble at said monument to meditate and reflect on Murdered Citizens and again kneel, doff covers, and pray to God for forgiveness.
There will be mandatory monthly ethics classes on such subjects as "Negative Effect on Society of Perjury by police" and "Sociatal impact of Murder by police".
These acts shall be in addition to punitive damages and restitution paid.
Have you noticed there are no massive funerals with TAXPAYER FUNDED police cars/equipment and TAXPAYER PAID police saluting for the VICTIMS of police MURDERS?
Where is the recognition and apologies to the VICTIMS of their BLUNDERING???
Always remember ---- these are the "HIGHLY TRAINED PROFESSIONALS" that the government says will protect you if you just be nice and give the government your guns. Police murder more Citizens every year than do terrorists.
The cowardice of hiding MURDER behind lies of "resisting arrest" and "I was in fear for my life" should immediately disqualify for life anyone from ever engaging in "law enforcement" . If you are that cowardly you should be a greeter at Walmart.
Yeah sure, the POLICE - --- Currently, in the U.S., law enforcement kills around 1,200 citizens per year. Ironically, that number is actually four times higher than those who die from rifles. As has been recorded, cops have killed 450 percent more people than have died in the past forty years of mass shootings.
Judgements of that nature should be taken from the police department retirement funds. Not the taxpayers... When department retirement funds are depleted by lawsuits, there should be no taxpayer funded bailouts.

  7. Great story ...glad the dogs have their $1200 vests. Meanwhile, families are living in cars and a lot of American 9 year olds are wearing shoes that don't fit and are suffering from toothaches that there's no money for...Fuck the police dogs and this little primadonna..

  10. Get a life Vic....lighten up... he's just a kid. The police may have made a positive impact on his life....let him grow up and make his own life decisions.... Right now he's just enjoying his childhood....at least he doesn't want to grow up to be a F*GGOT or be in a Drag Queen Contest...

  12. Dumb ass kid, around 20 police dogs per year are killed on duty. No exact figures but if the same % shootings as police men then maybe 3 of them were shot.
Meanwhile police shoot and kill some 1,500 dogs belonging to civilians each year. If the kid wants to do something useful, put vests on the dogs where police are going to visit.

  16. The"police" get way enough money to buy any gear they need.
Have you noticed police & fire are always "exempt" from those glorious "Right to Slave/Work" laws that destroy Civilian's collective bargaining? Why do the Police not DEMAND their "R to W? BECAUSE "right to work" IS A FRAUD.
They always get the best benefits and perks. Not to mention what they steal

  17. What you say is true and all...but the service animals are never included in their budgets for protecting because they are just considered expandables like a blanket...a nonenity.... Onyx weighed around 1.5+ tons and was 17 hands high...he could have easily stomped and killed the man who hit him on his face with the pipe but didn't... I would visit him daily for weeks as he stood outside in front of the Broward County Courthouse in the grass with his rider when I had to go file paperwork in the Courthouse for my attorney boss. I have a gift of talking to animals......
