Some LGBTQ activists are apparently pushing some parents to bring their children to LGBTQ pride parades because they believe that it can only benefit the children involved.
What are the details?
HuffPost Canada published an article on Thursday highlighting several activists who advocate for children to attend LGBT pride parades.
The article, titled, "Are Pride Parades Kid-Friendly? Parents Say Children Can Handle The Kink,"
One activist, a self-described "semi-retired sex therapist" named "Ren," said that children are very safe at such places.
"I can't imagine a safer place for families to bring children," Ren said. "[F]rom kink to nakedness, [it's] an excellent opportunity for parents to do unbiased sex education.
"Children benefit from seeing people loving one another, from seeing diversity and inclusion," the activist added. "Children suffer from seeing violence and fear, hatred and divisiveness. We found and built our tribe at these gatherings."
Another activist, writer S. Bear Bergman, added, "First of all, nobody likes nakedness more than children."
Bergman continued, "On the list of things that I don't want my children ever to be exposed to are: compulsory heterosexuality, demonstrations of sexism, demonstrations of racism, demonstrations of ableism, violence. These are all way higher on the list than some homosexual's tuchus."

Bergman insisted there's no valid reason for children to miss out on pride parades.
"[I]t's a fun day, there are a lot of bubbles, rainbow streamers, and enjoyable performances," he explained. "It's their right as queer spawn. And as a parent, I might want to take my kids to Pride, because they might be lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer, or two-spirit."
It's all fun and games until one of the kids gets boned up the ass.

ReplyDeleteI live and work in Silicon Valley, which is just below San Francisco. Speaking on behalf of quite a few men who are white collar professionals, they are often embarrassed by the antics of the "gay pride" parades.

Bring the kids to a pride parade? There's an idea right up there with stopping your circular saw with your hands.

You can be Queer or whatever, but encouraging Children to observe Adults, stoned, drunk and messed-up, gyrating all over the place, their asses, tits and genitals exposed,performing lewd acts, likened to Dancing, stuff that is done in their seedy, over-glitzed, tasteless Clubs of perversions, is just not right.

My cousin is gay and his partner is an Argentinian - he became an expat and moved to Argentina where this nuttiness doesn't exist.
In Argentina, two men kissing on cheeks is ignored, nobody thinks anything about it. It's just a sign of affection. Really, how often do you see a man and a woman doing a deep throat kiss in the United States other in a back alley next to a bar? It doesn't happen. Socially acceptable affection in Argentina is accepted and nothing is read into it. In the United States there was fairly brutal repression of homosexuality at a time, in Argentina that didn't exist.
He's rethought the whole "coming out" thing being there. The whole "gay pride" thing.
The gay pride parades, that's a show of freaks, not of your average gay man. My cousin felt it was deeply embarrassing.
You'd have no idea he was gay either if you talked to him although he can detect people who are advertising they are and he showed me how to detect it. It's subtle and it's impossible to explain. He'd just point out to me who he thought was gay, and over time, I learned to pick up on it, ask him if my assessment was right or wrong, and over time, I got to about 90% agreement with him. Gaydar exists.

ReplyDeleteI really would not refer to all of them as "freaks". Years ago I dated a divorcee with 2 children. Was flabbergasted when I met her daughter(13) and son (14) at the time. They were attracted to the opposite sex, so not unusual. As I can't scientifically explain it, the male was very feminine and the female was very masculine. He walked and talked like a sissy girl and his sister walked and talked like a boy, liked physical sports and was super alpha. They were definitely in the wrong bodies. Any thoughts on that?
