'Handmaid's Tale' Attacks Christian Baptism

Hulu's "The Handmaid's Tale" is back to its trademark Christianity bashing. Now, instead of slandering Christians as psychopaths who forcefully impregnate women and take children as child brides, the show has attacked the concept of Christian baptism, particularly Catholic baptism.
The recent episode "God Bless the Child" features a baptism of some sort for all newborns in the fictional dystopia of Gilead.
"While walking to the ceremony, June (Elizabeth Moss) thinks back to the time she had her first newborn daughter baptized in a church years ago," reports LifeNews. "Although it’s admirable that June wanted her daughter baptized, everyone else was [a] lot less admirable about the whole situation."
At one point, the priests who carry out the infant baptism are likened to a "bunch of holier-than-thou child molesters." Transcript below:
Holly: Sweetheart, Hannah does not need to be sanctified by a bunch of holier-than-thou child molesters.
June: Okay, a little louder, Mother.
Holly: Do you think that your father would care? He spent a hell of a lot more time at Fenway than he ever did at Mass. You cannot let religion control your choices. That’s what they all want.
June: Mom, shhh!
Moira: They are not too thrilled that I’m the fairy godmother.
As noted by LifeNews, the episode attacks the very act of baptism itself by characterizing it as a tool for control by authoritarian men. Last year, the show went to new depths in its Christian bashing by actually suggesting that such people of faith want child brides. In fact, the episode even had a priest quote Matthew 19:5 — "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh."
"And therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall cleave unto his wife," the priest said in the episode. "And they shall be one flesh. I now pronounce you man and wife. God blessed them. God said unto them 'Be fruitful and multiply. Replenish the Earth.' May the Lord order your steps now and all the days of your life."
Many of the show's stars have openly advocated for abortion and made ridiculous claims about how pro-life states are just like the fictional world of Gilead. Actress Ann Dowd, who plays Aunt Lydia, told The Daily Beast last year that the show mirrors what happens to women in this country.
"I can tell you that it’s not the writers’ intent to mirror what is going on, sadly, in the world and this country. But it is to wake people up, keep the dialogue going, talk. Don’t let the small things go by," Dowd said. "You know, the line that I find so haunting from the first season is when Offred says, 'When we finally put our phones down it was too late.' Just pay attention! I’m sure there’s a fair amount of hyperbole in terms of we could turn into Gilead. I don’t see that happening. Having said that, the permission people seem to have now to step out of the shadows in terms of white supremacy, that shocked me, how organized it was and the degree of it. When you see, also, Roe v. Wade, that’s not a simple question. The lack of awareness of how complicated the idea of abortion is. To all those pro-life individuals who are picketing and doing what they’re doing, I want to ask them how many foster children live in their homes? How many children without family have you taken in and said, 'I will accept this responsibility?' I find all those things shocking, the degree of ignorance, of racism. With Handmaid’s, what is shocking is in this era that we live in now with this president, things I didn’t think were possible are in fact happening, in much larger numbers than one would have thought."
