Actor Jeff Daniels, who starred in the 1994 comedy “Dumb and Dumber,” was invited to be a panelist Monday on MSNBC. It went about as poorly as you might expect.
The “Dumb and Dumber” star also happens to play Atticus Finch in the Broadway production of “To Kill a Mockingbird,” a remake of the classic story about racial tensions in 1930s Alabama.
And for some reason, MSNBC thought it was a good idea to let the actor provide political commentary.
Throughout the segment, Daniels and the other panelists compared 1930s Alabama to the current political climate under President Donald Trump.
“You have to decide whether, like Atticus, you believe that there is still compassion, decency, civility, respect for others, do unto others,” Daniels told MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace. “All of that stuff you guys believe in, and you still voted not for [2016 Democrat presidential nominee] Hillary [Clinton], or for Trump. Where are you now?”
“Because your kids are looking up at you going, ‘but he lies,’ and I think there are a lot of people in the Midwest who are going …” Daniels added, before sighing to drive his point home.
“It might be enough for them. We’re going to find out, you know. If the big gamble is to go all the way to November 2020, which I agree, and lose, it’s the end of democracy,” he said.

Now, it’s of course completely ridiculous to compare the current political climate to that of 1930s Alabama.

Liberals demonize Trump and make him out to be a bigoted monster, despite the fact that minorities are thriving under his economy and that the president often chooses women and minorities for important roles.
Furthermore, Trump simply hasn’t done anything to undermine democracy.
In fact, liberals are the ones who are attempting to erase the results of the 2016 presidential election by obsessing over efforts to impeach Trump.
So no, it won’t be “the end of democracy” if Trump wins in 2020.
It might be “the end of democracy” if he’s unfairly impeached, or if a Democrat gets elected in 2020 and packs the Supreme Court to bypass conservatives.

This is why MSNBC, a presumably serious “news” outlet, shouldn’t put actors on its panels to talk about politics.
Daniels clearly isn’t well-informed enough to engage in a meaningful political discussion.
But actors love throwing in their two cents — even Daniels’ “Dumb & Dumber” sidekick, Jim Carrey, frequently offers terrible political commentary.
Carrey, a once-beloved household name, now paints extremely offensive pictures of people he doesn’t like, including women in the Trump administration and the innocent Covington Catholic High School students.
As another example of Hollywood’s liberal lunacy, some actors attempted to boycott the entire state of Georgia because Georgia’s lawmakers decided to take a stand against the barbaric practice of abortion.
It’s safe to say Hollywood actors should stick to entertaining and stop embarrassing themselves by talking about politics.
