Man And His Dog Survive Nearly Five Days Trapped In The Snow With Only Taco Sauce Packets For Food

A 36-year-old Sunriver, Oregon man and his dog were rescued Friday after being stuck in the snow for more than four days with nothing but taco sauce packets for food.

On Sunday, February 24, outdoorsman Jeremy Taylor filled up his Toyota 4Runner with gas and set off into the Oregon snow. Somewhere on U.S. Forest Service Road 40, Taylor’s vehicle became stuck.
According to the Associated Press, Taylor decided that he and his dog Ally would sleep in his car, and try to escape the next day. Unfortunately for the pair, by the time Monday morning rolled around, even more snow had come down.
Taylor and Ally initially tried to trek through the snow in order to find help, but it was too dense, so they were forced to go back to his vehicle and wait. Over the course of the next four and a half days, Taylor was able to keep himself and his canine companion alive by turning on the car intermittently to pump the heat. The only food he had was leftover taco sauce packets.
On Friday, a snowmobile rider came upon Taylor’s vehicle and called for help.
According to a press release from the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office:
An Oregon Water Resource SnowCat with one DCSO SAR member responded to the location and made contact with Jeremy and his dog Allie. Jeremy and Allie were found to be in good condition, but hungry after being stuck in the snow for five days. Jeremy and Allie were then transported to the intersection of FS Road 40 and FS Road 45 where he was reunited with family and friends.
Following his rescue, Taylor posted a message to Facebook:
Thank you everyone, I'm safe my Ally dog is safe. I really appreciate all the help. Got lucky, lets never do that again. I'll be in touch with everyone soon.
Nearly 75 people have commented on the post, expressing their thankfulness that Taylor is safe, and advising him to be more careful the next time he goes off-roading:
"Oh Man! So happy and relieved you and Ally made it. Glad you’re safe now."
"Jeremy, I don’t know you, but you just made me feel SO much better about the stray packets of sauces that end up in my car!! Even in central Ohio – cars run off of roads in snowstorms. Gorgeous Aussie, too. Please enjoy a long and healthy life."
"Dude....wtf!!! I think you should have a tracker installed...I'm so happy you are alive and well but please let someone know next time! See you when I see you friend."
Taylor’s Aunt Denise wrote:
Jeremy – we all love you, you have some wonderful friends, and I can't even begin to put in words how happy I am that you're ok. So, maybe let's not do that again, ok?....or, let's just move you to San Diego so you don't have to worry about that white stuff! Love you lots! Your Favorite Aunt Denise <3
When one commenter mentioned the taco sauce, Taylor replied, saying: "Taco Bell fire sauce saves lives..."
