The jilted ex-boyfriend then took to his personal Facebook account and recorded a live video in which he could be seen waving a gun at the frightened girlfriend and her colleagues as they lay on the floor.
Machado accuses the beauty salon worker of having cheated on him with another man and threatened to kill each one of his 14 hostages.
'Here we are with these beautiful people, with this little wh**e who betrays. Look, look, this liar who betrayed me,' Machado said while he pointed his gun at his ex-girfriend.
'And now she is going to die. We're all going to die. Look how we are here. I love this. That's what I didn't want. That's what this bi**h is looking for.'
Machado fired three shots when the first responding unit of cops arrived, but no shots were fired by the police officers.
One witness told Uruguayan newspaper El Observador that at one point Machado grabbed his ex-girlfriend with one hand while holding his weapon with the other and approached the entrance door.
During the standoff, Machado sat on the floor and asked the hostages for forgiveness.
Perhaps intending to die, he posted a photo on his Instagram account an hour before entering the salon that showed his mother hugging him and a young girl.
'I will be your Angel and I will forever look over you,' Machado wrote in Spanish.
A female employee and her daughter were caught on a cell phone video escaping through the roof of the business.
Police negotiators were able to diffuse the situation with the assistance of family members, including his mother and sister.
Machado allowed two women to leave the beauty salon after a family member entered the business to talk to him.
Moments later, the remaining hostages were freed. Machado stepped out and removed his jacket before placing his hands above his head  as cops arrested him.
Machado appeared in court Friday and was officially charged with aggravated domestic violence, possession of a firearm and deprivation of privacy.
A judge ordered him led for 90 days while the case is investigated.
Fernandez told local television station Teledoce that Machado displayed violent mood swings after his ex-girlfriend ended their relationship.
She even pleaded to his parents and suggested Machado receive medical attention.
