Who picks up the tab can prove to be a minefield on a date, but one man had just cause when it came to splitting the bill.
Reddit user u/CuteBananaMuffin, thought to be from Ireland, has shared the deluge of abuse he received from a woman after he refused to pay for her at a restaurant.
In the thread shared on BoredPanda, titled 'Well... There goes the "friendship" with her' the man explained that his date's food bill had been more than six times more than his own and he felt he was justified in his decision not to pay.
Sharing screenshots of their conversation he revealed that he had attempted to ask her out on a second date.

She responded: 'After what you did to me last time you expect me to go out with you again? Wow.'
The baffled redditor then asked what he had done wrong to which she replied: 'You made me pay for my own food and drink while you paid for only yours wtf'.
The man then replied to explain that he felt it would be unfair for him to pay so much more for his meal when he had ordered far less.
He wrote: 'So? You invited me lol, you are lucky you didn't pay for my food too, plus I got a carbonara and a beer while you got lobster and €80 wine.' [£72, $92 US]

He went on to point out that while his food bill came in at just €17.50 (£16, $20 US) hers came in at a whopping €110 (£98, $126 US), pointing out that he is a student not a 'sugar daddy.'
However, his date failed to see his point adding: 'Wow you are so rude!!! I'm never going out with you ever again, if you can't pay for a girl's food then why accepting the invite?'
After accusing him of being gay she then said that he only wanted to have sex with her before the conversation turned sour.
Reddit users were mainly in support of the student, agreeing that it was unreasonable for the woman to expect him to foot the entire bill.

One responded: 'That's why she invited you out so she could get expensive food and wasn't expecting to pay.'
Agreeing, another wrote: 'Anyone that expects that royalty treatment is not someone you want in your life. Good move.'
A third added: 'That’s incredibly obnoxious. Going out solely for the free lobster! Gives women a bad name.'

  1. Isn't it sexist today for a young, independent woman to expect a man to engage in the archaic male ritual of paying for both meals?

  2. This is why MGTOW is growing, and this is good. Sausage casings are NOT FREE ATM MACHINES!

(Heh-heh-heh. I'm takin' two sausage casin's out to eat this Friday, but everything that is going to be ordered is already set, and I got it covered. I make more than my BF (SCF?), so I'm takin' my BF (SCF?) and a severely impoverished mutual buddy to a really cool moderately priced Chinese restaurant.)

  3. She would have got a real surprise had it been me the receiving end of her largess as I would have excused myself to attend to the washroom and then diverted out the door at let her pay both bills.
