Cliff Richard has been blasted for saying 'he would rather 10 guilty people escape than one innocent man suffer'.
The popular singer, 78, outraged Loose Women viewers with his controversial comments during an interview on today's show.
Cliff was talking about how he was moving on with his life after being wrongly accused of historic sexual abuses and having a police raid of his home in August 2014 being broadcast live on the BBC.
He said: "There’s not just a few of them [wrongly accused], there’s an army of us. I’ve had so many letters. Some people have spent two years in prison and been innocent. It’s the danger of if we don’t change the law it’s going to keep happening to innocent people.
"When I was in the court with the BBC I saw a quote that I loved, a judge Blackstone from way back, said: 'I would rather 10 guilty people escape than one innocent person suffer'."
Cliff, who endured a horrific ordeal after being wrongly accused, was making reference to Blackstone's ratio - an often debated sentiment referring to the justice system.
The ratio maintains courts must err on the side of innocence. Cliff was never charged with any criminal offence.
Rather than calling Cliff out for his shocking remarks, the Loose Women panel, which included close friend Gloria Hunniford, nodded in agreement.
He even got a massive cheer from the studio audience, who were then treated to a live performance.
Outraged Loose Women viewers were stunned that he had made the comments, especially after Mel B had just spoken about her "abusive relationship" with Stephen Belafonte.
A few minutes later, there was a bizarre technical issue that resulted in Cliff being taken off air for a few seconds.
Taking to Twitter, one viewer said: "The witches on Loose Women really need to look at their hypocrisy - chastising the abuse that Mel B suffered then applauding Cliff Richard's quote"
Another added: "How can these DULLARDS applaud Cliff Richard when he quotes "I'd rather 10 guilty people go free over 1 innocent person suffer" @loosewomen you are DISGUSTING what about VICTIMS? #loosewomen"
Others took aim directly at Cliff, claiming the victims 'deserved more'.
A furious viewer said: "Imagine having 10 predators on the streets just because you were mildly inconvenienced by an investigation into you that was proven to be untrue?"
Another agreed: "I'm not a fan of Cliff Richard but he's turned my stomach saying that 10 guilty men should go free to save one whose innocent. Absolute disgrace. The victims of abuse, assault and rape deserve more."
