An armed Louisville resident has claimed he came face-to-face with a gunman just moments after two people were shot inside a grocery store.
Ed Harrell said that he called out to ask the man what was going on as he left the store and he replied: 'Don't shoot me. I won't shoot you. Whites don't shoot whites.'
Harrell said that he heard gunshots from outside his home on Wednesday and grabbed his revolver and crouched down next to his car.
Moments later, he claimed that a man walked through the parking lot holding a gun by his side, when he pleaded with Harrell not to shoot him.
Harrell alleged that as the gunman walked closer towards him he dove behind a car and watched as the armed man got into another car and drove off.
One victims has been named locally as Maurice Stallard, the father of Kellie Watson, the towns chief racial equity officer, reported the Courier Journal.
A woman was also found dead in the parking lot after attempting to call 911 during the attack, reported Jeffersontown police.
According to sources the suspect shot Stallard while his 12-year-old grandson stood next to him in the store while they were stopping for poster board.
The young boy then reportedly sprinted out of the grocery store and asked to use a strangers cellphone to make a call to his mother to tell her his granddad had been shot.
Police arrested the suspect on Hurstbourne Parkway near the store a short time after the shooting, but is yet to be identified.
Eric Deacon, an emergency medical technician who was shopping at the store when gunfire broke out, said he heard a 'loud bang.'
'It almost sounded like a pallet hitting the floor,' he told WDRB-TV in Louisville.
Deacon said he saw two men run out of the store into the parking lot, shooting at each other.
He said he saw a woman in her mid-50s or early 60s get hit as he was calling 911, and he ran to help her.
'I looked at her and she was, she was gone,' he said. 'I knew there was nothing I could do.'
As police officers swarmed the scene and blocked off the area with yellow crime tape, a man identified by the Louisville Courier Journal as Tim King stood in the parking lot waiting for his wife to come out.
He said he drove to the store after she called him sobbing to tell him what had happened.
'I said, 'What's wrong?'' King said in a video posted on the newspaper's website. 'And she said, 'There's someone shooting up here.''
King said his wife said she heard popping noises, then someone ran around a corner and said, 'Oh my God, he's killed her.'
Customers were moved to the back of the store, she said.
'It's just a very, very scary situation,' King said.
'We are shocked and saddened by the shooting incident that occurred around 2:30 pm today,' a statement from Kroger said.
'Thanks to the quick response of the local police department, the suspect was apprehended and our store is secure.'
The FBI released a statement saying that they are currently assisting the police with their investigation and evaluating the evidence to determine if there were any violations of federal law.

  4. right.not get down or die jumping behind a car is a reasonable response to don't shoot me right. And goes to show scumbags that can't aim pulling guns whenever startled isn't owned by any race
