A teenage pro-life activist was brutally attacked while canvassing to urge Kansas voters to go out for Tuesday’s referendum on abortion law.

Grace Hartsock, 18, was volunteering with Students For Life and handing out literature about why people should support pro-life policies in Overland Park.

After knocking on a door, Hartsock was told by the woman who answered, “no, I’m sorry I don’t think you want to talk to us.”

When the young activist turned to leave, another woman could be heard yelling from inside saying, “don’t apologize to her, mom.”

According to a report from Fox News, things escalated significantly at this point.

“The woman, whose identity is unknown, then reportedly followed Hartsock out of the house while berating her. SFL says the woman shoved Hartsock in the chest and began striking her head with closed fists,” the report says. “Hartsock weathered the blows until the woman’s mother got the daughter to stop. The woman continued yelling, however, telling Hartsock ‘I hope you get raped,’ and ‘I hope you get run over by a car,’ SFL says.”

Hartsock filmed the end of the encounter on her phone, once the attack was over. The woman could be seen walking back to the house while cussing at her.

“Since she was struck, the student is experiencing headaches and body soreness, and Students for Life Action has connected her with an attorney. She and Students for Life Action are considering a legal response.” SFL spokeswoman Kristi Hamrick told Fox.

Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins issued a statement saying that the “pro-life generation will not be forced into silence or fear” over the attack.

“As reported to police, a grown woman took out her frustrations over abortion on a teenager who volunteered to let people know about the Kansas ballot initiative. This brings abortion radicals’ ‘Summer of Rage’ close to home,” said Hawkins. “But the Pro-Life Generation will not be forced into silence or fear because of radical pro-abortionists who show no regard for life, inside or outside of the womb, and no respect for the free speech rights of their fellow citizens.”

Kansas voters are voting on the “Value Them Both” amendment today, which would “affirm there is no Kansas constitutional right to abortion or to require the government funding of abortion, and would reserve to the people of Kansas, through their elected state legislators, the right to pass laws to regulate abortion, including, but not limited to, in circumstances of pregnancy resulting from rape or incest, or when necessary to save the life of the mother.”

Fox notes that, if passed, Kansas will be the first state to vote on abortion access since the overturning of Roe v. Wade in June.

Hartsock has filed a complaint with the Leewood Police Department.

“It’s unfathomable that the pro-choice movement claims to be ‘pro-woman’ and yet attacks women who don’t agree with their narrative,” said Hartsock of the attack. “It’s not surprising to me that a person who advocates for violence in the womb wouldn’t hesitate to attack a pro-life woman like myself.”
