A burglar took advantage of a deadly fire that raged through a Bronx building and stole $15,000 worth of goods from an apartment.

On Friday, a fire burned through the Mitchel Houses in the Bronx, which ended up killing 6-year-old Aiden Hayward and hospitalizing his 32-year-old father in critical condition, ABC7news.com reported.

A crook took advantage of residents of the NYCHA building's misfortunes and stole around $15,000 in items from Alberto Revilla's 20th-floor apartment while he was on his way to spend the night in a hotel.

Revilla told the New York Post he witnessed the robbery unfold through his cellphone as security cameras he set up in his apartment showed the heartless crime unfold.

'I was around the corner on my way to the hotel when I saw it on my phone,' Revilla said.

'I showed it to the officers, I showed them the live feed. I said, ''Let's go, let's go now.'' They hesitated. They said it was impossible because there were officers on the floor but there wasn't.'

By the time officers did reach his apartment the thief was long gone.

Investigators are still determining the cause of the fire, but residents have blamed the blaze on a broken trash compactor that looked to have been ripped out of the wall

The door to Revilla's apartment was left open after firefighters busted the lock during the fire, allowing for the thousands of dollars of his belongings, including wedding rings and electronics, to be taken, the Post reported.

'This is disgraceful,' he added. 'How is that possible? We don't know what to do.'

Revilla also tragically lost his two in a half year-old mixed Maltese named Loki in the blaze.

'I lost my dog, I lost my valuables, I lost my apartment — everything that makes up my family,' Revilla said.

The young boy who lost his life lived one floor below Revilla and died at a local hospital after suffering from smoke inhalation.

Revilla was not the only person targeted, police say other 911 calls came in after residents cleared the building.

'After the fire, someone went in and burglarized the place,' a police source told the Post. 'Nothing like having your house burned out and then your stuff stolen.'

Investigators are still determining the cause of the fire, but residents have blamed the blaze on a broken trash compactor that looked to have been ripped out of the wall, the Post reported.

Residents of the building are disgusted that someone could take advantage of such a horrible situation for their own gain.

'People just died now, and you're robbing people,' 61-year-old Coleen McCourt told the post. 'You've got no morals. You don't give a crap about nobody.'
