You’ll hear more from them about the disadvantages Darrell Brooks Jr. suffered than about the lives of at least five innocent people that he took last night as he drove through the Waukesha Christmas Parade like a giant bowling ball crushing grannies and small children in his path.
Instead of focusing on the lengthy criminal record of Darrell Brooks Jr, the man accused of driving through the middle of a Christmas parade in a small town and extinguishing the lives of innocent human beings, the media is shifting the narrative to a knife fight Brooks may have been fleeing from before he careened his vehicle into innocent children, as their family and friends watched.
AP – “It looked like dummies being thrown in the air,” said Nicole Schneiter, who was there with her children and grandchildren. “It took a second to register, like, ‘Is that what we really just saw?’ And then you looked in the road and there were just people laying in the road.”
At least nine patients — most of them children — were listed in critical condition Monday at two hospitals, and seven others were reported in serious condition.
According to the chief, police were not pursuing the suspect when he entered the parade route, but an officer did fire a shot to try to stop him but ceased firing because of the danger to others. The driver was not injured.
This morning, after internet sleuths uncovered his identity, it was revealed that Darrell Brooks Jr., the man accused of driving the SUV into dozens of innocent people last night in Waukesha, WI. Brooks Jr. was released from jail on a $1,000 bond only two days ago.
Brooks Jr. has a violent criminal history, including sexual assault against a minor. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal, Brooks Jr. has been charged three times in less than two years with recklessly endangering the safety of others, most recently on Nov. 5 as part of a domestic abuse incident for which he was also charged with resisting or obstructing an officer.
In the case this month, a woman [the mother of his child] told police Brooks purposefully ran her “over with his vehicle” while she was walking through a gas station parking lot after he had followed her there after a fight, according to the criminal complaint. The woman was hospitalized for her injuries, court records show.
According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, Brooks posted a $1,000 bond on Nov. 11 in the most recent incident and was released from Milwaukee County Jail on Nov. 16. He also was charged in July 2020 with two felony counts of second-degree recklessly endangering the safety of others using a dangerous weapon. Both cases are ongoing.
Milwaukee DA is being ripped apart for his role in releasing violent criminals back into society with a slap on the wrist as part of a plan to reduce the “use of incarceration in nearly all cases” in Milwaukee.
Today, the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office, led by District Attorney John Chisholm, made a statement about the recent $1,000 bail recommended by prosecutors in the case of Brooks Jr. and accepted by the court commissioner, saying it was “inappropriately low” given the nature of the charges.
